I am having Wayne at AHR perform his #2 upgrade on my CZ-550 in 375 H&H in anticipation of my first Cape Buffalo hunt next year. The rifle has a 1-4x Meopta scope with lighted reticle. The iron sights will be used as backup.

We were discussing front sights and he initially recommended a red fiber optic. I am red/green colorblind and find red fiber optic front sights appear as a dull blob. Standard options for the NECG front sight include a silver bead, patridge (looks like it has a gold blade), and a white bead in two sizes. Right now I am leaning toward the large white bead.

I was wondering what the forum members' thoughts are on the NECG sight choices and would particularly welcome input from any colorblind hunters that have faced this same choice.

I am not color blind, but see little color when viewing my front sight on my elephant rifle. It has a brass bead filed flat at about a 30* angle towrd the muzzle. In good light it glows white, in poor light it still glows, but a little yellow and fairly bright.

I would think that the silver bead filed flat would be about perfect.

I'd not though that some experienced open sight hunters prefer the partridge blade. BTW, the front sights from NECG are fairly inexensive and easily switched out, so you could try out a couple, keep the one you prefer and return the others to NECG for e refund.

Good luck,

JPK

I would suggest what color/ combination of front / rear sight looks best to you. Do light or dark colors stand out better?

Thanks for the input so far!

impala#03, light colors stand out better, although I have no problems with the old standby, black post front and black notch rear.

If you're truly colorblind you have no choice but to use a CLEAR front sight. Wink

Considering the results I've witnessed over the years, I think I've guided a few guys using them.

Seems like someone has snuck them onto my guns a time or two also.

Thank you all for responding. The big white bead it is!

I'll let you know how it works for me.
