Can anyone recommend a front sight hood for the bead for a Ruger ? I know NECG makes them but am unsure which one may be a proper fit and in questioning them, they are not either..Smiler

Thanks in advance...Dr.Mike

The Ruger barrel-banded front sight will not accept a hood. Just is not designed for one. No grooves to accept the hood. It would have to be replaced or seriously machined to fit a hood of the machinist's device.
Sorry, no easy fix for that one.
Replacing the whole shebang with an NECG Masterpiece would be the easiest thing to do if you just have to have a hood.

That's what it appears like...I like they way they hood focuses things for me but don't think it's all that important. Thank you so much for all of your responses. I am replacing that brass bead with a white one though.

Hello,
As mentioned, Ruger not machined for hooded front sight set up. However, using the hood to shoot with is probably not the best arrangement.
It is there to protect the bead/blade/etc. from being damaged during travel, storage, etc. and not for actual shooting. I know people do so, but it tends to block some vision to the shooter and would suggest shooting without it in place. It is not intended to serve as a globe front sight as you would find on a match type rifle. If it works for you have at it!!
(I should mention that upon purchasing my first RSM, contacted NECG and inquired about using one of their banded front sights and believe the cost was something in the area of 250.00 installed. Decided I could live without the hood arrangement, but did use one of their sight inserts.)
