Hi Fella's,
Ross Seyfried wrote a very good article on the 4 Bore, 8 Bore, .600 Nitro and the .577 Nitro in what I think was an issue of "THE RIFLE" magazine..I think? Possibly, it was entitled something about (GLADIATORS)? Does anyone know for sure what magazine and issue it was in?
As always, Thank You!
Chris

Dear N E 450 No2,
Well, I down loaded a copy from "The Rifle"'s website under back issues, but it's print was very small & all the pictures aren't posted in the article. So payday, in about 1 1/2 weeks I'll try buying the back issue if its not sold out by then ! I'll have to take my chances.

I just got a back issue of that in the mail yesterday. My dog literally ate my old copy last week! The article is also on-line minus some of the pictures in the print version.

For anyone that is interested, Ross also had a superb article in the December 1999 issue of HANDLOADER magazine entitled "Reloading the Nitro Express". He gives starting loads and COMPLETE instructions for loading everything from the 450/400 to the 600 NE. Ross' powder of choice is RL15.

I also have an excellent article by Al Miller which appears in a 1991 Book by Wolfe Publishing in which he gives specific instructions for converting cordite load data to IMR-4831 for everything from the 450/400 to the 600 NE including the magazine cartridges in that group as well. I used that article to replicate the Kynoch ballistics for my .404 Jeffery.

If anyone needs any help, let me know.

Dave

Bigdoggy, in the articles that I have there is nothing about the 2,4, or 8 bores, just all the Nitro Express cartridges. There is no link but I would be glad to make you copies and send them to you. PM me with your address.

I just looked up the article myself. It is another great story written by one of the best writers in the biz. I have always loved Ross' articles. Even the ones that I didn't agree with were still fun to read. This particular article is a definate favorite.

I remember another article on the 8 & 4 Bore rifles that was written in 1988-1989, I believe, that was also good. In one of the pictures of the article Ross' glasses get seriously rearranged while shooting an 8 bore from a sitting position. I'll try to find that article too.

I would really like to find an article of Seyfried's written (probably written between 1988-1991, maybe???) about the .475 & .500 Linebaugh calibers. I was 14 or 15 at the time and it was the first time I read about these calibers. It surely helped me develop a love for big bore revolvers just like other Seyfried articles inspired daydreams of dangerous game and the rifles used to take them. The article I am referring to was pretty detailed and I remember thinking that a guy would have to be nuts to actually shoot these monsters.......then staying up late and dreaming of just that! I can't remember the article names or the magazines they were in. Mad

Nickudu could post better quality versions of my scans, at the Nickudu Files, if he does not have it already, but this ought to help a bit. Ross Seyfried at his finest. I still subscribe to all the Wolfe Pubs, even though Ross is not there anymore. They are "best quality" gun rags:
