I am looking for information from your experiences with .500 Cal; 570 gr. bullets. Brands, performance results, thoughts, etc.

I appreciate your time and comments.

Thanks,

Sam

What do you want to use them for?

I have used the 570 Woodleigh, soft and FMJ, but on game only the soft. It is a VERY good hunting bullet! Not the most accurate in my rifle at more than 2350 fps, though.

I have shot the 570 X bullet. Not impressed with it. The groups were so so and there was a little fouling, not a big deal though (Woodleighs foul a bit too). My problem is that the X bullets do not expand enough, in my opinion, and act more like a solid than a soft point. I hunt, primarily, so I am more concerned with the terminal ballistics than anything else. For what it is worth, solids are a speciality bullet for punching holes in elephants, hippos, and rhino! Softs work best on everything else, again just my opinion.

Right now, I am using the new Woodleigh 600gr Protect Point. Initial results are very encouraging, with good accuracy and a tougher design, when it warms up again I will get out to the range and do some formal load development work. Perhaps, I will post the results then.

I opted for the 600 gr PP because the 570 gr Woodleigh is being pushed mighty hard to stay together at impact velocities in the 2300fps - 2350 fps range, were I am using them.

Don't know if that was any help, but there you have it just the same.

Scott,

They will be used in a .500 NE double rifle with 24" barrels.

Thanks for your in-sight.

Regards,

Sam

In that case, my advise is to use the 570 gr Woodleigh. I am sure that the double rifle experts here will agree, as well.
