I bought a Blaser 93 for my upcoming trip to Africa and finally decided to try and mount the scope myself. I decided on the quick release blaser mount and a zeiss 2.5-10x50 red dot reticle scope. Since the base and rings are all one piece, I thought it would be pretty straight forward, just adjust for eye relief, get the cross hairs straight and tighten the screws tight but not too too tight. Just in case I put some pencil marks to indicate where the scope was in case it did move. I proceeded to bore sight it and I was done.
Well, I fired my first shot and when I checked, it wasn't even on paper and the scope had moved about 1mm. Mad
I took the gun/scope in to the gunsmith at the range and he took a look at it. He told me the rings weren't aligned properly. I thought being one piece base/ rings they had to be aligned. Anyways, he re-bore sighted it for me and after a couple of adjustments I was able to get a pretty good group. I was shooting factory Remington 300gr swift A frames. I have some factory Federal 300gr trophy bonded bear claws that I will try next although I will probably stick with the SAF.

gomez,

Blaser Saddle Mounts for an R93 are very easy to mount & get on paper quickly IMO.

1. After adjsuting the Saddle Mount to the barrel.

2. Take it off, turn it over and underneath the mount there will be two large Torx screws holding the lower rings on. These should be slightly loosened.

3. Put the Saddle Mount back on the rifle and lay the scope in the lower half of the rings. The rings will now align themselves with the scope tube.

4. Adjust Eye-Relief, square recticle, install & tighten the upper ring halves.

5. Then turn ther Mount over and re-tighten the 2 Torx screws holding the lower rings to the Saddle Mount.

Scope is now mounted & stress free.

Makes perfect sense now but the instructions it came with didn't say anything about loosening the torx screws under the base. The scope laid in nicely but I guess not evenly. Thanks for the clarification.
Thanks, Bill

You're more than welcome.

O.K. - I've never even seen a set of mounting instructions and I've been witness to many a R93 purchase. Perhaps just a European thing - Dunno?

A German gunsmith showed me this trick and the shop where he works is a "Preferred Blaser Dealer" so I can imagine quite a few go through there annually.

I've mounted 7 of my own scopes and probably a dozen more for friends & aquaintances.

While I'll be the first to admit that manufacturing tolerences are involved; when done the way explained I've managed to put the vast majority of iniital shots outa R93's within 6" of POA.

Also expereince from switching scopes between 2 Blaser rifles, a R93 & a K95; is that once they are sighted in there is usually very little adjsutment required to re-zero. I just pulled a 3-12x56 Zeiss off a .30/06 Sprg.; installed it on the .243 Win. and the POI was excatly the same (2" high at 100 meters).

Have fun with your new Blaser R93!

Gerry,
That's great to know as far as taking the scope off and mounting it on a different barrel. I just figured it would be back to zero if you put it on the same barrel after taking it off for traveling purposes or whatever but not for different calibers. Suppose it won't be the same in all cases but close sure helps.

jro45,
What kind of rifle do you have? Buddy of mine that is going wants to buy a .375 but doesn't want a Blaser.

Ovny,
Thanks for the comment but I can't take too much credit. I was using a lead sled so I pretty much just had to pull the trigger Big Grin

Any thoughts on the bullet choice? SAF's or TBBC's? I will not be hunting any dangerous game, just plains game. Giraffe, zebra, eland, kudu, wildebeast, gemsbuck, impala, nyala, warthog and maybe a couple others. Would love a sable but the trophy fee is a bit too much. I will also be taking either a .338 win mag or .300 win mag. I am leaning towards the .338 because they are both pretty similar in trajectory with the .338 having a bit more punch.
Thanks, Bill
