I often hear about tang relief on this forum but I am not familiar with how it's done. On a rifle say .416 or bigger how much space should there be between the tang and stock?

Hello Homebrew.

I generally allow about 1/32" (0.030") free space behind the tang, as on this 500 Jeffery.

My Ruger RSM .416 Rigby has slightly more than this so I think I'm OK.

Thanks.

I see the need for the relief, but do you glass bed the tang lug without any relief on the lug itself?
