I'll be looking for a source of replacement CZ ".458W.M." magazine boxes. Sumbuddy who know? Call CZ-USA? My first 500 Mbogo was a rebarreled CZ 550 Magnum that started as a .416 Rigby. It had the ribbed "375 H-H" marked box to start with, and I overlooked that initially. Until I discovered what a beating that recoil was giving it. Bullet noses dented the front of the box, enough to cause worries about feeding hangups, etc. I replaced it with a smooth-sided ".458W.M." and reinforced its front per gunsmith Rusty McGee. 500 Mbogo No. 2 got the same treatment. Same for a 49-10 Win. M70 and a 49-10 CZ 550 Mag. Here is a a look at the denting from my photographic attempts, and the kind of fix for it that Rusty does, with milled steel and solder: Other fixes for magazine box denting? Glass bed tightly right up against front of box? Epoxy a steel plate to the front of the magazine well that is tight up against the box front? Rusty's fitting of a steel "brake pad" to the front of the box is probably as good as it gets, short of getting Duane Wiebe style bottom metal made ... Switching from the ribbed to the smooth-sided box on the 500 Mbogo gave me extra room, and adding a coffin floor plate will give a bit more. Might be getting 4-down in the CZ 500 Mbogo soon. Just switching from ribbed to non-ribbed box will usually convert a 3-down .416 Rigby into a 4-down. The .416 Rigby has a lot more case body taper than the 500 Mbogo. Easy to get 4 down with the .416 Rigby. Quite often makes them feed better too. I do not understand why CZ puts the internally narrower box from a ".375 H-H" on a .416 Rigby, when their ".458W.M." box would be a closer approach to "Mauser Cosine Perfection" in box dimensions. May want to give Duane Wiebe a call. I believe he makes bottom metal for the CZ rifles and supplies Wayne at AHR. Duane's products are very nice and I guarantee you will not dent the front of the box. I could be wrong, but try anyway. I've been wrong before. Just call home and ask my wife. Luck, Stephen

I just soldered a small piece of sheetmetal onto the front of the box. Pressed the ribs out and was good to go. -Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!

Well that will do nicely. Rusty McGee might have better tools and abilities than I for freshening up the dented and ribbed boxes, as needed. That surely be easier than making them from scratch, and a whole lot easier on the pocketbook than Duane Wiebe bottom metal all around.
