I was thinking about using NECG's 1.5" pad to increase the LOP on my CZ .505 Gibbs. Has anyone compared one to the Old English Pachmayr Decelerators? NECG Universal Recoil Pad http://www.newenglandcustomgun...rand_id=4178&ST=NECG Universal Recoil Pad

I've used the NECG pad to lengthen LOP. I'd swear they are made by Pachmayr as they look and feel just like the Decellerator. The only small issue I have with them is you can feel the internal steel structure when you press on them hard with your fingers. They feel kinda lumpy around the screw hole area. This is due to the quick-change feature and the extra metal they have to put into them to make that functional. You might not feel it on the 1.5" thick one though. I've noticed it on the thinner ones. My shoulder doesn't feel the difference though, and that's what counts.

Wayne, do you happen to have a picture of how these pads mount and remove? Would it be easy to create a small void in the stock underneath the pad to store a peep sight (say a Talley) versus having to carry it off the gun? If it were easy to remove without tools, one could just pop it off and grab the peep and replace the pad? Whaddya think?

Baxter, I have used both pads before and, like Wayne, cannot tell the difference since they seem practically the same. I do not have a picture, but the pad requires zero tools to remove and replace. There is a "male" part with two locking nuts that screws onto the buttstock and a "female" part on the underside of the pad. You simply apply a little pressure on pad while sliding it up onto the "male" part and the two locking nuts will hook. The male part runs almost top to bottom on the buttstock, but the locking nuts look just like unslotted round-head screws. You could probably swap the male component of the device for two round head screws not screwed in all the way and thus have the entire center of the buttstock to fasten a hidden trap for a peep sight. Sorry I don't have a picture, hopefully someone else will chime in with one. The stock I had the pad on went off to be a pattern stock. ____________________________ If you died tomorrow, what would you have done today ... 2018 Zimbabwe - Tuskless w/ Nengasha Safaris 2011 Mozambique - Buffalo w/ Mashambanzou Safaris

Thanks Sevens, I have seen a pad similar to this, the ones on some Beretta shotguns...there are two studs that fit into a slot in the pad and then are retained by a spring clip slipped in from the bottom. There was a gap in between the studs, which gave me the idea. I'll look into them, might just solve a problem I have, thanks!

Sounds like pretty much the same contraption. ____________________________ If you died tomorrow, what would you have done today ... 2018 Zimbabwe - Tuskless w/ Nengasha Safaris 2011 Mozambique - Buffalo w/ Mashambanzou Safaris
