FWIW, I was browsing through the new CDNN dealer catalog and they list the Rem. 798 in .375 @ $619.99 and in .458 for $569.99. Don't have any interest one way or the other, just thought I would pass it on to my fellow forum members.

Based solely on the one I've seen in person, one needs to understand that these should be bought as barreled actions. The wood to metal fit is so poor that a new stock will be needed. I mean gaps of over 3/16" inch.......and many others have posted similarly. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." The actions are pritty rough as well, and will need a lot of tweeking to get them right for building a nice Mauser rifle. The fit and finish of the Whitworth is not evident in the 798 for sure, even if the actions are made by the same company! Still, they are better suited to a start to build a DGR, than the PF 700 Rem. ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

I've got a Charles Daly that I bought for a beater rifle last year, $260 new. Why is the same thing, with an ill fitting stock, now supposed to be worth $600.

It's not and Remington is going to be stung for quality severely.....after the general public sees these, the word will spread quickly.....only a very small number of shooters read these forums.....but once they get the word out and mass merchgandizing will do that...the price will be paid. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." CDNN says they are left over Charles Dalys not the new Remington 798's. "Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you; Jesus Christ and the American Soldier. One died for your sins, the other for your freedom...."
