Crossed in the "maddness" threshold Caliber double up's
I think I have now gone crazy............................as the .416 Rigby is my favourite caliber I have just bought a second .416 a cz American. I feel quite bad about this as I suppose it's wastage Frowner

But I wanted one set up for lighter bullets and one for the 400 gr variety.

How mad have I gone Confused

But I have been wanting a second one for quite a while and just had to scratch that itch.

How many others have crossed the threshold ?

PC,
You've got it wrong mate, it's the rest of 'em that are mad. Remember it was 1997 when an elephant escaped and was MIA in the bush around Benalla for almost 12 hours. How many other Sambar stalkers were prepared AND with a back-up. Regarding the "heavy" and "light" set-up rifles, couldn't you just use separate scopes on detachable mounts??? lol

Got chatting with the office vegetarian one day (he's not "evangelistic" about it, though) and told him that I had just bought my second .458 WM. He wondered why I needed two and what they could be used for. I told him anything, including elephant.

He said, "Well, I guess you never know when you'll find two rampaging elephants in your backyard." Big Grin Big Grin

I really feel the .416 is the best power/recoil compromise out there as well as giving the shooter great trajectory. and the bullet weights from 300-450 gr offer lots of versatility.

Nope I own TWO .416 Rigby's as well. A Ruger RSM and a CZ on a McMillian stock. Juggling turning the CZ into a .470 MBogo or a LR .338-378 WBY though??? bewildered

I bought one used 375 H&H, that was used as a display gun for the CZ rep. I regularly kick myself in the arse for not buying the other one...Goes right along with not buying a couple AR 15's, a .380 and 45 mac ten, selling my detonics combat master VI,
Not buying a balanced and blue printed Falconer and Dunn Boss 320/540 horse racing engine, and not scrounging up 20 grand to buy a wrecked Ford GT-40, that wasn't wrecked that bad... CRYBABY

I take the gun into a local gunsmith, tell him I paid 550 for the rifle, and he looks at the gun, in disbelief, and says,

"HOW MUCH did you pay for this???"

It's got VERY nice wood...

Oh my God! Are you telling me that everybody doesn't have 2 416 Rig? I though every body had at least two. In fact I think that every body who doesn't have two is crazy. And two 458's and two 375's and HA HA HEE HEE the funny farm where life if beautiful all the time and recoil sillies sit and smile. Yahoo yipee with 78 different rifle reloading dies, bullets and cases and primers galore. There is no end just give me more!!!!!!

I just bought a "Safari" with the Kraut stock. But a friend of mine, (not to be outdone), just bought an "American" one, and they gave him "select" wood! I have not seen a piece of walnut like that on a factory rifle for a coon's age! Maybe never!! It is really striking!

As for lighter bullets, I've loaded up the 350-grain TSX with 95 grains of IMR 4350, but would like to develop a deer load with a 325-350 grain cast gascheck bullet at around 2000-2200 FPS. It seems that 95 grains of IMR 7828 might produce such performance.

Any info you could provide RE: loads, would be appreciated!

EL in my current .416 I am using 102 gr of AR2209 (imr 4350) behind either the woodleigh 410 or taipan 400 gr projctiles., Norma case and fed 215m primer.

Do Barnes make a tsx lighter than 350 gr for the .416 ??

I want to try either some 340 gr woodleigh's, 350 gr Barnes TSX's or if I can get them some GS HV 330 gr .416 bullets.

Glad I am not totally screwed up Big Grin

I think it only wise to own multiple guns in the same caliber. You might forget where you put your first one or something tragic like that.In fact I think come to think of it a written law from long ago that you should have at least one extra gun is each large caliber. Yes, yes thats it I'm sure of it!
