The 300 gr. Barnes, the 300 gr. Accubond and a few others I suspect are just too damn long, require too deep seating and create a lack of space for powder in most cases. I got by using them at somewhat reduced velocity, but I let it bother me at the time, created in my mind a non existant problem..So the last 375 I built I built with a long custom magazine box and cut a long throat just to see where I could go with it. IMO, it was complete success, it really cooked with velocity and was right up their with your average 375 IMP. One could convert any 375 by lengthening the magazine. The best part was it still shot short loaded handloads and factory stuff as well, making that jump had no effect on accuracy and never has on any rifle so modified that Ive played with and that is many..I loved that gun, but alas sold it, a weakness Ive maintained for a lifetime, Im just a gun whore and never really satisfied with any of them and always ready and willing to sell one and to build another to play with. I would recommend this modification, if one is going to shoot the long Barnes and Nosler Accubond in the 375,..otherwise stick with the standard, shoot the regular 300 grainers, they work just as well in the field IMO...For what its worth.

Thanks Ray, great info. Have you tried the 350g Woodleigh RN Heavy Duty bullets? I bought a Rem XCR II in 375 H&H for a brown bear hunt in April of 2011. It had issues, the extractor was too big, the chamber was rough, QC at Remington had gone downhill. I had my gunsmith install a Sako extractor, weld the bolt handle on and rechamber it to 375 Weatherby. I mainly shoot 300g Swift A-Frame factory through it, but I get 2550 fps with the 350g Woodleighs as well.

Chuck

Chuck,
Actually I helped or instigated the 350 gr. RN and Jeoff liked the 350 idea but thought the PP would be a better bullet..I told him it would be too long, but he said all he had to do was give it a proper ojive, He ended up doing both and the PP (of course) turned out to be the better of the two for most cases, as it was tougher than the RN..His tests on Aussie bulls and mine on Cape Buffalo turned out the same..The RN 350 is a great buffalo bullet for herd hunting as it will always stop on the off side skin with broadside shots, the PP will normally give pass throughs and good exit holes, so I recommend the PP for hunting dagga boys that have separated from the herd..Makes a great combination..I have a lot of faith in all Woodleigh bullets in that they expand into sharp cutting wings and do a lot of internal damage and kill quickly..

I like the Swift, and the Nosler Acccubond but they don't do as much internal damage as the Woodleighs as the Accubonds tend to ball up into a perfect mushroom, but rather smooth..Theh Swift tends to make a smooth round ball with a bulge behind the expansion portion and give the same wound channel as a accubond..This is what Ive determined from using them on mostly buffalo, others may have a different opinion, and I won't argue with them as they are all good enough bullets..

I follow any soft with a solid or a North Fork cup point..The cup point will work on anything under any condition I suspect..Sure had good luck with them on PG and Buffalo...

Woodleigh Hydros, 300 grains, were perfect in my old Sako .375H&H, and loaded identical to the regular Woodleigh RNSNs. They worked fine on a pair of honking-great buffalo as well as a giraffe, besides smaller animals.
