I have a fat face and the hogback (EU) stock fits me better than the American with and without a scope. Recoil between the two feels about the same for me. Thats probably because I really have to cram my cheek into the american style stock. Any advantage the straight style stock has for recoil is lost for me cause the side of my face feels it.>John

Another fat face that likes the EU style stock better than the American style stock. I have a Safari Magnum in .375 H&H and its stock fit me just fine for both scope and iron sight usage. Recoil is not bad either. I have not shot a Safari Magnum with the American style stock but handled one at Gander Mountain. I really had to cram my cheek into the stock to be able it line up the iron sights. It would probably would be ok with a scope as you could mount it to get the proper sight picture. I have 2 other 550 Americans (9.3X62 & .30-06) that are scope only and the stock works well and is a pleasure to shoot. If I were to put an American style stock on my Safari Magnum, I would have it custom made to fit me.

Can someone help me with the advantages and disadvantages of the 2 types of factory CZ stocks (U.S.vs EU). Specifically as it relates to felt recoil and scope positioning.

Thanks

both are a tad high for irons... the american much more so.

it's a question of taste.. do you like the contintial or the american?

recoilwise, i would expect the american to have a SLIGHT edge on less felt

I tried the hog back stock and they were just fine for me with iron sights, I guess it all depends on your physique. I'm small and skinny, no probs for me at all. Haven't tried the american stock yet.

I'm long necked also. The hogback stock works fine for me to get my eyes on the sights.
