I understand that the 458WM cartridge can be shot out of the Lott. Is there a downside to that? Will that cartridge shoot as accurately out of it as a rifle chambered for WM or is it only acceptable to do in a pinch if say you can't Lott ammo? Just curious... Thanks.

There are some unconfirmed reports of a ring developing in the chamber at the depth of the 458wm case mouth as a result of fire errosion. I doubt it personally. Also, you will need to make sure you clean the chamber before hunting DG with Lott rounds, to make sure any crud forward of the 458wm case mouth is cleaned out. But cleaning the chamber should be part of the to do list anyway. You may see reduced 458wm velocities compared to the same rounds fired in a 458wm chamber because of the greater volume. As far as accuracy, the 458wm has lots of leade or freebore anyway. JPK Free 500grains

There is very little down side to shooting WM cartridges in a Lott. Throat erosion is possible if you shoot several thousand rounds, that's about it...........Tom SCI lifer NRA Patron DRSS DSC

I shoot a Ruger NO.1 in Lott and often switch to 458WM which makes for a versatile caliber arrangement. Accuracy is quite good and as others mentioned, I do swab/clean out the chamber, but of recent date, just been shooting only Lott rounds and for less power/recoil used a somewhat reduced load. Shoot the 300/350gr. bullets, 500gr., and recently been shooting some 435gr GC cast bullets. All of them work fine.

They will shoot but feeding from the magazine can be a problem. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.
