Where's the RSM?

SixgunWhere's the RSM?
I was just on Ruger's web site and the RSM (or Magnum as it was labeled) is no longer listed. Links to pages come back as 404's. Anybody else see this?
I just sent the stock from my Lott into with them for warranty review (What? It split?). Hope I wasn't the straw that broke the camel's back.

AmmoloaderI searched and did not find the RSM on the websight either.... Just in the older catalogs.
I wonder if this means they have the rumored spitting issue worked out with the African Hawkeye model in 416, etc?

Maybe the website is getting more 2011 updates and they expanded the RSM line! Would be a shame if that was dropped.
A 416Ruger would be a sorry substitute for the 375H&H, 416Rigby and 458Lott lineup.

Dave BushThe good news is that Ruger is now offering the 9.3X62 in their African rifle.

congomikeAlthough I am not a big fan of the RSM, I can't imagine Ruger dropping it since that would leave a 375 class caliber as the biggest they offer in a wood stock rifle and a 416 class the biggest in a synthetic stocked rifle. Too many people want a 458 class or more.
24 January 2011, 03:57
jeffeossoListed under calibers, then file not found. I'll call them tomorrow.
I also have a 458 Lott RSM with warne rings for now, 2k

Brad aka Pill ShooterJust called Ruger. The nice lady who picked up the phone stated that she has to go by the web site and could not provide any additional information. They may or may not be manufacturing them any more at this point. Maybe some one who knows an insider could get us more accurate information. Not sure what this mean other than I WON'T be selling
any of my RSM's since their value may have just gone up if this is infact the case?
Brad

500NThey said to me at the Shot Show that it was dropped this year.
Not sure why.

fourboreThats a shame. I have an RSM in 416Rigby. A wonderful gun. I probably should have got a RSM Lott when I cheaped out on a CZ POS. I'd bet competition from 1/2 price CZ's hurt. And now M70 is back, with a better balanced gun in 375H&H (IMHO).
Ruger seems to do well with the basic bread&butter products. I wonder if they would do better to down grade the RMS, rather than drop the gun? A lot of time must go into tooling and development. For instance: drop the quarter rib, plain wood, cheapo matt finish. Aw heck - maybe they can even screw up the feeding and bend the barrels and try and take back some of the CZ market share?
Hey!! It would be wild if Ruger was making a bigger badder, higher capacity, bolt action for 505Gibbs and 585HE/BME. Excuse me, my mind drifted off for a moment. I am back now.
25 January 2011, 01:26
shootawayNow here is a rifle to buy and get your every pennys worth-a Ruger RSM.All you need to do is bed, keep the screws tight, change the striker spring retaining pin, install a Wolfe striker spring and your set to go.I believe Wolfe also makes a sear replacement spring to lighten the trigger. If it doesn't feed FN solids at least you can use one in the chamber for the first shot-which you can bet it will shoot deadly accurate.

PoppaWHaha that sums it up.

Everyone is allowed an opinion, even if its wrong.

VFR1Was told the same thing at the Ruger booth at the DSC--no RSM for 2011.
26 January 2011, 05:25
HomebrewSo how does this affect the value of existing rifles? Do you guys think the demand is high enough to push values up?
26 January 2011, 06:10
viperidaeI doubt it is gone for good. Ruger has a history of cycling product production. Not a bad move from a buisness standpoint.

Only for thoose that like to shoot a gun that feels like a 2X4.
26 January 2011, 23:15
Brad aka Pill Shooter
Easy there! I love my 3 2x4's and with sub 1 MOA groups at 100 yards I'm not going to sell them any time soon. I never could bring myself to buy a CZ.... Now that my version of a 2x4. Its great there are so many choices to go around.

shootawayRugers sure are tough rifles to beat. What are they chambered for, pill shooter? They look good as new.Have you shot them yet or what?
27 January 2011, 06:11
Brad aka Pill ShooterIn Order Top to Bottom:
500 Jeffery (Custom Conversion)
458 Lott
416 Rigby
They get some time at the range and the 500 went Elk hunting this past fall. That is a another story. Thanks for the interest.

jeffeossoa few calls to Ruger says that the RSM is NOT on the discontinued list, and appears to be a tech error on the web site. also the catalog lists it, on page 33, i believe, and the weblink is also broken.
more to come

Brad aka Pill ShooterJeff:
Thanks this thread almost sent me into a panic as I was begining to frantically search for 1 or 2 more RSM's before the hard core collectors start snatching them up and doubling the prices. I was trying to collect money for my PH build but I would have to go for an additional RSM if they were on their way out. Why can't Ruger build a couple in 404 or 500 like mine I'm sure they get some additional business and jump start the line. I guess there just making too much money to even bother.
Thanks & Great News
Brad

Don In ColoradoHi Brad,
Is the 416 the "first" version of the RSM as it appears to have a slightly longer (24"?) barrel than the others.
Great set of rifles....

Brad aka Pill ShooterDon:
To the best of my knowledge which I will admit is limited. The 500 Jeffery on top is one of the first generation guns. The lower 416 Rigby is a second generation which you can tell since the front barrel band is out from under the stock and it retains the heavy barrel profile. The middle 458 Lott is one of the current guns since it has a slimmed downed and slightly shortened barrel and a dark walnut stock.

congomikeNow I guess it comes down to who to believe...the person Jeffeosso talked to at Ruger, or the rep, or reps, that two other posters talked to at the SHOT show.

or believe the catalog

congomikeI know what the catalog says, but if I dig through my old Ruger catalogs, I can show the listing for the XGI, the RSM in 404 Jeff, and a few others.
Like I said, I don't like them, but there are a lot of people that do and I think Ruger would be making a big mistake not having anything bigger than the 416 Ruger offered in a bolt action rifle.

Take a look at the catalog link. I don't see it. pg33 is the scout rifle

I dunno, have stumped a few factory guys in the past.
two days ago I balled Barnes to see if I could fine the appx fps of the new 375 Vortex loads, the guy on the phone (tech guy that is) said, "I'm not really sure, high 2600's, maybe more."
If I can believe that, that'd be very cool news....

and its changed since i posted that...
hmmm, $2400 for my RSM in 458 lott ... get it quick, before prices go nuts
28 January 2011, 05:00
Brad aka Pill ShooterJeff
$2400 maybe someday...Still hovering aroung the 1500-1800 mark today on GB/AA. Also Cabela's still has a few. I let a used 1st Gen 375 H&H go last week for $999 on GB still can't see the use for a RSM in anything smaller than 404/416. Might grab a 416 heavy barrel since I can rebore it to something fun still I should just put the money into my PH dinosaur blaster.
All the Best
Brad

jeffeossoWell. I am wrong. Ruger has removed the RSM from the lineup
