I don't know who Joe is, and I don't know why he thinks the scope and or rings might move rearward under recoil???

Also people that confess to likeing Brno's/CZ's always seem to gloss over, or not even mention the usual faults/pecularities.
I think there has been more horror stories of them on AR than everything else put togeather.

Still, they USUALLY shoot accuratly, so I guess that's worth something. stir

First trip to the range last night with my CZ Rigby. Only had time to bore sight it and fire one group. It went 1.01" with the 350 TSX. I did the trigger and bedding, it holds 4 down and feeds perfectly. Obviously one group means nothing but its nice when a first outing shows promise.

Sure, but hardly a treatise.

PC, was it you who just got a new CZ??
And we hoped you got a good one?

How about a write up on it, wood, fit and finish etc. But no bias now. Smiler

A friend of mine has a CZ in 375 H&H.
We have shot it quite a bit, even as far as 300 yards, on paper.
It is a great shooter. We have no complaints.
It has taken whitetail deer in Texas, mule deer in Wyoming and a black bear in Idaho.
The owner had NO complaints.

Nice read. Very thorough and entertaining to boot.

The CZ 550 is the best thing going. Anyone who prefers anything "better" (i.e., GMA, Prechtl, etc.) is a flat out gun snob. pissers

Hey, I got a mention there. As is common in arguments, a misunderstanding perhaps.
I'm supposed to have said Joe said CZ mounts may move.
What I am saying is that with heavy recoil the mounts and or scope won't move back, they will tend to move FORWARD.
Joe then mentiones air rifles, which is another problem all together due to "springs".

Wow, this is my first X board arguement.
On ya Joe.

I still think this is a good article, even though there's a couple MINOR things wrong.

However, scopes move FORWARD under recoil, so this statement is just inaccurate, but not a big deal.
quote:
This serves as a locating point for the aft scope ring and prevents the rings and scope from moving rearward under recoil..

as the problem with a sliding scope mount is the stock recoils BACK while, if the friction of the mount can be defeated, the scope stays still, resulting in the scope going forward.

You can prove this to yourself in about 90 second. Remove the rear scope ring from a cz, or loosen both scope rings on any gun. place a piece of masking tape INFRONT of the front ring, just touch it.

Hold the scope STILL (not in a vise, but you get the idea) and move the rifle back 1/2 of an inch. This simulates total grip failure mode, but shows clearly that the scope move FORWARD under recoil, but ONLY in condition of the mounts gripping system failing.

heck, everyone makes mistakes, lord knows I do all the time.
