Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences with the hein action or completed rifles? I am looking to order a completed rifle from them in the near future. Thanks

I handles a Hein action and a completed rifle at SCI. They were both very nice. The action is a Model 70 style, although available with double square bridges if you want. I say Model 70 style because of the way the barrel mounts and the bolt release, as well as the swept bolt handle. But the finished rifle I handled was a Mauser, if I recall correctly.

I haven't owned a Hein but I'd like one. I looked them over at the NRA show and talked to the smiths/owners. The actions seem to have every feature one could want, they come in 4 lengths and the company makes beautiful rifles.

Isn't that the old Noreen action? Seems like they are the ones that bought out Noreen.

Yes, in fact we did buy out Peter Noreen about 4 years ago.

Micdis,

i received my 338 Lapua from Karl last december and i am quite pleased. Double square bridge, synthetic stock, scope only.

Have not been to the range yet (to busy with my new 505 and too much rain this year) but i like the feel of the rifle and the feeding is smooth and solid (each of the four cartridges snapped into the bolt, whether i cycle slow or fast. Was using 416 Rigby cart).

I plan to get a 505 with 0.75" bolt and integral barrel and was curious if it could hold 3 down. I was able to get 3 505's down into the 338.

rgds,

steve

Karl and Dave are as knowledgable about guns as anybody and while I don't personally know of Karl's work his partner Dave Caboth is as fine as craftsman as anyone.

Note to Dave : just saw one of your 500's at GNG today. Stainless bbl, Mk X action and MPI stock. Joe was asking $1800. I was tempted.

micdis,
I just placed an order for one of their synthetic tracker rifles in 300WM. I haven't even seen their actions but a couple of friends saw them down in Houston at the NRA show and they liked them alot.
I like the idea of the machined action with the rails, magazine box etc. made for each particular cartridge.
They have a special offer going on now so their synthetic rifle is comparably priced with Dakota's synthetic.
I guess I'll be able to tell you more when I receive it!!!
Regards,

I have just recently met Karl and Dave, but I have know Greg Hein for many years. I have no doubt that if you buy one of the Hein rifles you will be pleased. They are first rate rifles with tight tolerances and built right from the start.

The rifle pictured above is not made off of one of their actions, but does show the kind of quality work you can expect.

The rifle pictured above is a custom 500 Jeffery built on a 1933 Oberndorf action with a beautiful engraved full rib barrel. It was on their table at the NRA show, representative of the quality work they do.
