I have a few question's about the Muzzle Brake used on the .600 OK. First off, who makes it; what's their web address *if any? What was the cost? What pecentage of recoil does the company claim it removes; for you all who have the .600 OK and have the muzzle brake for it, in your honest opinion does the M.B. accomplish the manufacturer claim of recoil reduction? Does this manufacturer make this same brake in .700 cal (say for the .700 H.E.) Thanks Larry A.< !--color-->

If you ever shoot one without a muzzle brake it all comes to you in a flash or cordite! With a muzzle brake it still comes to you in a flash of cordite, you just don't walk off quite as fuzzy in the head...

brakes are MORE effecient on FAST bullets... for example, a higher PERCENTAGE of recoil will go away from a 50 bmg than a 500 nitro... this is a factor that you are redirecting muzzle blast UP.. myself, I am not certain I could handle a 700, as I would hate the weight and , if there, a brake's noise. jeffe

There is nothing availble off the shelf for the 600 OK or the .700. But you can get a brake made for you by Vias or AHR, and probably others.

I usually make my own. Nothing to it! Sometimes I just drill lots of holes in a barrel on a indexing head and ream .030 over bore diameter. It gets a bit more complicated if you want a removable brake. Fritz 454 can make you anything you want!-Rob

Quote: Ok, I have a few more questions for you Mr. Gunbuilder; A. Have you ever used a Shark Brake type design on your rifles? I hear it the second most effective design right behind a Clamshell type brake. B. Do you thing Fritz 454 is talented enough to make a resized AR50 design brake to be able to handle a .70 cal bullet? I would be putting it on either 2" Chrom- Molly barrel or a 2.25" Stainless barrel. C. Which would you recomend for the thread pattern; 1/12, or 1/14? D. Finally, do you know could make a Carbon Fiber wrapped barrel with a 2" or 2.25" diameter ( I know most of the big bore carbon wrapped barrels I've come across are 1.5-1.75" diameter but I really like the look of a bull barrel and I could most certainly do without the weight that comes with bull barrel.)? Thanks Larry A. < !--color-->

Good questions- Well let's see. I've found clamshell brakes in general work better than other types in recoil reduction and yes the AR50 brake appears to be very effective. As for accuracy, an AR 50 is ususally a 2 to 2.5MOA gun at 1000yrds,i.e non-competative. No one uses these brakes for accuracy period! They are heavy and ugly and I would not use one on a .700. The Vias design is used in competion, weighs lots less and is far more pleasing to the eye. As for threads, I use 14 TPI. mostly because thats what Mcmillan uses and they make good brakes themselves. I took 2nd place at Reno in light gun at 1000yrds with a Homebrew brake with lots of holes. Gun weighs 31.5 lbs. Fritz 454 is an honest to God machinist and is way out of my league. If it can be built he can do it period! I have no experience with Carbon fiber wrapped barrels I prefer to use a HEAVY 2 inch OD steel barrel and a Carbon fiber stock!!-Rob
