Hello Everyone,

Ive been monitoring these boards for about a year and a half now and in the while have become very interested in Big Bores. Im 16 but can handle the recoil of big guns well. What do you guys think would be the most economical way of having a Big Bore built, and what cartridge would it be. Thanks so much for your help.

A big bore can be anything. What did you have in mind? You do not have to build one to get started. Why not buy a less expensive stock 458 Winchester or 416 Rigby rifle and load them up to the top and have some fun with it. To buid a custom big rifle, it will cost at least a couple thousand dollars. I don't remember having this kind of cash for a gun when I was a teenager. Good luck. Ming

My suggestion would be a Ruger #1 in 458 WinMag or 416 Rigby. You could always re-barrel to 458 Lott or 500 NE.

I went with the CZ 550 for my first big bore. The price is hard to beat for what you get, and you have a decent action to build on in the future should you decided to go that route. Rob

CZ 550 Magnum is your best bet. If you were old enough to purchase a rifle I would sell you my Ruger M77 Magnum 416 Rigby. The nice thing about the this Ruger is that since it has the original heavy barrel you could rebore it upto .510 and have a 500 A-Square or 505 and have yourself a 505 Gibbs (and every caliber inbetween).

Thank you all for all the info. I think im going to go with the 416 Rigby. I really like Ruger M77, but I wont have the money for a few months. Ive got a Ruger M77 in 7Mag that I plan on selling for some of the money for the 416. I will definatly be looking fow one in a few months.
Thanks

nitro bo, i went the same route as several others, cz-550 safari 458 wm. when and if i decide i want more then i will re-chamber for the 460 g&a. i have recently started back into cast bullet shooting. which also means casting. some like it some don't. alot of game of any size was killed before jacketed bullets. just something to think about. ( alot cheaper than jacketed, especially in the big-bores ) halfbreed
