Howdy!!
New member here, thought I'd say Hi!
Regarding the .375, thought I'd chime in to what I have. I have a Sako 75 in .375 H&H, composite stock, muzzle break, with a Leapold 4x scope. Been reloading for it for over 4yrs now. I use 270gr SP's w/Reloader 15 powder and also use 300gr RN's w/H4350 powder. Both are at point of impact at 100yrds at the bench.
She's my baby. Saw her at Cabelas on the used rack and was looking for a .375...so I had to get it!
Anyone else handload for the .375? If so, what combo do you use?

Yes, the 375 is an excellent rifle and in the right hands will kill any animal on the planet, there are better choices of that I have no doubt, but I would not be without one in my gun cabinet...I have shot a lot of Buffalo with a .375 and it always worked to perfection...that said I prefer a 40 caliber rifle for buffalo...I still use the IMR-4064 max loads in mine, 4064 has always given me my best accuracy in the .375 with RL-15 coming in second in my gun...

A good caliber & your load combinations are right in there. Like Ray, IMR4064 is great w/ 260-270gr. You might want to give RL19 a try as well under the 300gr. Welcome to the board. wave

I just got mine last October and I'm having a blast with it. I'm currently shooting the 260 grain Nosler partitions pushed by 78.5 grains of IMR 4350 for 2638 fps and it puts three bullets into one hole at 100 yards.

Agree with Ray on the 375 H&H...

When I purchased mine I was going to use RL15 but at the time RL15 was not available locally. I was using H4895 in my 458 Lott with Barnes TSX bullets...H4895 was a powder noted in the Barnes manual so I gave it a try in my 375 with 270 grain TSX bullets.

The velocity was chronographed at nominal 2720fps and the accuracy was so good I just stopped right there...just no need to try anything else...

I will be taking my 375 H&H when I head back to Tanzania in July.. as a back-up rifle for Buff and will use it on plains game.

Welcome aboard, CMR. I have a Sako 75 Hunter in the venerable .375 H&H as well. I haven't reloaded any for it yet, but I have the dies and a new RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme press. It shoots great with factory ammo. The Sako is a great rifle. Have you hunted with your yet?

I have the same rifle you do, Sako 75 topped off with a Leupold variable. Mine still its in the wood stock, too nice to pull off. I use about the same data you do, shoot a lot of H4350 as well. The only thing I would like to have is a better (more accurate) load for this caliber with the Hornady 225gr bullet as I would like to hunt white tail with it - the 270gr just seems like too much overkill. I really like the 375 and I have never heard anyone really complain about it. Can’t recall who but someone once said the 375 H&H was the smallest of the great big bores. I share that opinion..

Brad, My friend loaned a used Ruger SM in 375 H&H he just picked up. I shot it for the first time a few weeks back. I can't believe how accurate it is and being a heavy rifle, it doesn't kick much. Both my practice loads with 270gr Hornady's and my hunting loads with 270gr Barnes TS shoot under an inch. Hope to kill a buff with it this Sept in Zambia.

Donato, I purchased a Ruger RSM in 458 Lott a couple of months ago, have shot several hundred rounds through it. I can't say enough good things about this rifle. It's accurate, recoil isn't nearly as bad as I had expected, and it's "classy". I think the RSM is a bargain, and can't wait to pick one up in the great 375 H&H cal. Tell me more about your 375 hand loads. Good luck and Happy Hunting is Sept. !!

The fastest one shot kills i have ever seen in the field hunting relaxed animals were with a .375. All shot by Doc., God rest his soul, Lion over bait at 75 yds, shot through both shoulders 300 grn Winchester Silvertip , ran about 15 yds and expired,Lepoard simlpy blown out of tree, d.o.a., same load, no follow up,and Old george, 60 yds broadside , hit him in his left ear and dropped him where he stood, 300 grn Kynoch soild. The worst, Old George hit twice and Phil missed both broad side spine shots, it took 2 .475's Me,and 2 .500's, Ian to end it, Eland, two hits in the boiler room (Phil) tracked him almost half a mile, he was using 235 grns (da!), wart hog yes thats right , wart hog, two point blank hits with solids (oops ) and ran us around a bit till he was shot way too many times 6 if i can recall,(The adrenal gland has a way of doing that). Last but not in any way the least, Hippo with a tooache or constipation i do not know, didnt ask him, three rounds two, in the head missed by his brain (1/2 inch each time by Phil) last one shot his left ear off, it was ended by a 21 gun salute, or maybe it just sounded that way. So i guess if you put them where they are suppose to go its a fine caliber, if not, you should pack a spit ball gun it would be much more fun. A hardy welcome to the forum cmr, pull a chair up and get closer to the fire. beerCharlie (I cant spell worth a dam thats why i had to do it aover about three times, Sorry all Big Grin)

Mine's a Rem Safari Classic, and I woudn't be without it. It's the corner stone of my safe, the rifle I reach for to hunt Sambar when I really need to hunt... Loads I use are a 300gr at full velocity, and a reduced 220gr for practice. Considering hunting with a very soft (Taipan) 350gr at 2200fps this year, kind of interested to see what the deal was with the 360No2 etc... with their heavy for caliber bullets at slow velocity.
Cheers...

Thank you Brad, i just tell it like it is or was, it might help out the young ones who have only hunted for critters around the house. They see these videos of people hunting D.G. and get the wrong impression. You never get to see the edited scenes and (the ones with the three doubles rifles that are off camera stop a potential disaster) that woulnd't do much for sales now would it. Cheers! beer Charlie

I really Love my 375 h&h it is the nices gun. I had a 2" brake put on mine . It makes it like shooting a 30-06 or 270. Last year Brant a friend of mine, we were hunting south Of Juneau In seymore cannel .I got a shot at a couple of deer at 800 yards across a little bay . I had work these hand loads I used 76 GR. of ww 760 and a 270 speers boattails. they were just perfact. It took Three shots . One i guest for a distance check . For the next two Hit there mark. one right behind the front shoulder ann the other I hit the spine just above the shoulders . It was the first time that I have hunted with a 375. I usually use a300 win mag. I think at lease for a while the 375 will be the gun for me.

One load you might want to try is a 270 gr Hornady over 67 gr. of Varget. I used this load on elk & it killed it deader than dead.

I am having Dennis Olson rebarrel my .300 to .375 and am setting here on pins & needles until it gets back.

Dang, Glacier Bear, what was the holdover on that 800 yard shot? My Barnes manual says that at 600 yards the holdover is 75 inches with the 270 gr bullet at 2800. That is as far a distance as the manual goes.

Although cartridge selection is important there is nothing that will substitute for proper first shot placement. Good hunting, "D"

The .375 H&H is accountable for killing more Elephant, Cape buffalo, Rhino, Hippo and other species than all other calibers together.IMR-4064 works great.

TrapperP,
If you use a 225 gr. .375 bullet made for the .38-55 Win btw, when you hit your deer all you will see is a red mist and it will disapear! eek2

Use a .270 gr. or 300 gr. bullet. You won't find it "overkill", and you can eat right up to the hole as it will simply put a nickle to quarter size hole in the deer and let out a lot of blood to follow about 50 yards or so..Those bullets are designed for Buffalo and big stuff they don't normally expand a lot of deer unless you hit a major bone...

I like IMR 4064 but the load I use most often now days is a max load of IMR 4320. The accuracy is quite good and I am getting right at 2700FPS out of a 20" tube.

I do truely love the .375H&H it a great round.
