My .378 just arrived and I'm checking it out. Try to put some rounds in the box, yikes are these meant to be charged from the bottom? Sorry for the newbie type question but haveing a hard time believeing this.

Read the owner's manual. Twice, if you have to. What, exactly, is the problem? Are the rounds too long to load via the ejection port? Is this a 'factory' .378, or a re-barreled rifle? George

I had one of these for about the amount of time it took to shoot 6 rounds. Mine loaded really well. I paid $600 for it and it came with a Weatherby scope. It was a Japanese Deluxe rifle and it had a really nice stock. I think I shot 6 rounds out of it. It was the same as 6 shots of Jose Cuervo. I don't remember much about it. I think it would give a concussion to any prizefighter out there. Loudest and hardest kicking gun I have ever shot. Would have been fun to have a 28 inch bull barrel on it and a heavy thumbhole stock. I could have used it to snipe mastadons from 400 yards. Good luck with it. Invest in concussion insurance.

I picked it up, drove it to the range (it came with a 19 round box of factory ammo), fired 6 shots, had someone revive me with smelling salts and drove 50 miles to trade it and $200 for something more user friendly.

GeorgeS, its a factory gun. Made in USA, the lips of the mag box are too narrow for the case to pass directly down. The forward edges of the lips are open but the case must be well forward to jump out.

The feed lips on the Weatherby in-line vertical stack (2-down or 3-down with custom mod) are very tight and difficult to load from the top by backing the cartridge in the reverse of the way it feeds out. It does indeed work better to load them from the floor plate than from the top. Sometimes they come from the factory with lips too tight. Another reason the Mark V in .378 or .460 Weatherby is not a DGR, but a .375 Wby Mark V might be considered a DGR.

Have a great time with your cannon.....I sincerely hope you have a better go of it than D99 has but I know I couldn't handle it. Post back here after your maiden voyage. Lots of us want to hear your report.....assuming they let you out of the hospital soon enough. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." MTM..My 378 loads from the top. Let me know what you think after you go to the range. I know you will really enjoy it. What scope did you get for it? My leopold VIII 1.75-6 has held up to 1,000 (unbreaked)and counting.

I'm planning on a 2.5x8 Leupold. Eye relief should be O.K. I always here about the recoil of this round but I don't really see how it should be worse than a .416 Rigby(have one) with full power loads(2600-400) or a .460 WBY(had one) Am I out to lunch or is it that bad?

Without a muzzle break or recoil reducer in the stock it with darn sure knock your hat off. Make sure you have a good dental plan. Good-Luck Steve

My gun will load from the top but you have to push the shell part way into the chamber then back it in. I'll probably start somewhat back from full power and see how much fun I can stand. Even a 270 TSX at 3100ish should stick in.

I have the very same setup as AKA. I shot one before I purchased mine and it didn't scare me away. Having said that make sure you have a firm grip on that first shot. Then you'll know what to expect. Mine is the Japanese Model like your's.

MTM, I fired a 378Weatherby a few years back at the range and recoil was not an issue with the Weatherby factory loads, which were hot enough to shave brass into the ejector slot Certainly not as heavy as my 458WM but a bit faster. Nice cartridge, just wish brass wasn't so hideously expensive! Cheers... Con

I load my 338-378 weatherby accumarks from the bottom. They have a drop mag for around $150 or something.I had to get some cheasp 416 loaded ammo to get cheap brass.I necked it down.It was hard work but I got it for $1 each.I had to neck it twice .378 first then 338-378.Its awesome strong brass.I have reloaded it up to 15 times.I want a 416 Weatherby if I can find a good deal on one.I love my weatherby accumarks they are awesome.I could kick my butt a 1000 times I passed on a 416 Weatherby mark V for $900 a few years back. The Weatherby brass by Norma is some of the best made brass around.
