CZ 550 American in 375 Login/Join

Read a few articles about the American. I would like to believe them but I would rather hear from folks who actually paid for the gun. Here are a few questions I have:

Will this gun need work or will it shoot right "out of the box"?
Should I plan on a new stock?
Will it need bedding?
What should I expect to pay?

I don't own one or even thinking of getting one. One of my buddies got one against my advice because he's a cheap SOB and we compared it to my Ruger. I tried to break the rifle with some known fierce loads and it seemed to digest them without a problem. These were all factory loads as I insisted that he be practical if he was going to do some shooting. I definitely wasn't about to reload 400-500 rounds at the time. I was checking the wood to see if it would split after 300-400 rounds and everything was fine. Of course, my Ruger was a bit more accurate but the CZ American got 1.7" averaged 5-shot groups at 100 yds with all loads tried. Some got 2" and one got 3/4". It may grow on me the more I shoot it. BTW, I probably shot 2/3 of all the rounds through the CZ.

If you want one, buy one. Doubt that it will need much, if anything. A .375 ain't goin' to break many stocks.

The two I had (458 and 416) were very accurate. I just bought another. It goes bang but haven't checked its relative accuracy yet. Maybe the biggest bang for buck (~$700) around.

Go for the cz I own 5 cz's now three of them magnums, one be4ing a .375 H&H 550 with hogs back stock. It has a better action lug set up than the Ruger and will have a bigger mag capacity I think, either way they are a bargain.

They sure do work, I am building my 404 on the 375 550....I will be using one of Jim Brockmans English style laminated stocks that he sells for about $200. they are nice and fit me well, as they came off my pattern. I am going to keep the trigger and safty as the safty on them is better on a DGR than a M-70 3 position IMO....I am adding a Talley bolt handle that has been lengthened.

A real plus is the number of rounds that big box will hold, and I like that a lot...

Taking into consideration, cost and quality they are a real bargain IMO...they all shot well it seems..the safty is a darn good one and the triggers are good...I like the big bold, hell for stout, iron sights.

The stocks are decent European wood and thats a plus but they have about 3 lbs too much wood on them...

Get one and glass bed it and go hunting.

I examined one at the NRA convention in Pittsburgh and was unimpressed. The action was very rough. The cheekpiece was so fat, like a Model 70 Safari, that when I bring it to my shoulder my right eye does not line up with the sights except with effort. The Ruger stock does not have this problem but I think their .375 weighs too much.
