Gentlemen: I realize that the 375 H&H barely qualifies for the Big Bore section, but opinions are needed! I intend to scope a new (to me) M70 Classic in said caliber. Someone out there will have a view concerning the scope mount with pop-up peep that Mr. Brockman makes, pro or con...I'll even take PM's. Seems like a good idea, I have seen them, but in all practicality, do they work? Thank you, Arthur

Peep sights work very well! The only issue that you may have is the stock will either have the correct drop for the scope or the sights, rarely both. You will likely find yourself canting your head over the top of the stock to get it low enough for the sights, or find yourself pushing hard against the cheekpad to look through the scope.

The express sights, being ahead of the receiver are less critical for head alignment than a peep at the rear of the receiver.

That corresponds to my experience with peeps in general, too. I haven't tried Brockman's. I did try Brockman's Hex Express sights and found I could not adjust to the combined double ghost ring. Others may have a different experience. But today I had a revelation! I put the rear hex sight on a friend's 416 Remington and a Tru Glo fiber optic on the front and I am mighty surprised at how much I like the combination!

The rear hex is a large hexagonal ghost ring that fits on a Remington rear ramp. I was astonished at how easily my eyes centered the red dot in the hex. By comparison, I had an Ashley ghost ring adapted to the rear barrel sight of my 550 Magnum and the hex is orders of magnitude better than a round circle. The widest part of the hex is dead center horizontally in the aperature so it centers the front bead accordingly. I had a couple of green fiber rear sights to try as well. One was a Tru Glo blade with a green dot on either side of the notch and a Wiiliams ghost ring set up the same way. The ghost ring would have been cool except it's all plastic which I thought was wrong for the purpose. In use, my brain was distracted by the green colors on both and I found myself paying too much attention to the rear sight. It might have been great for the bench but it slowed my reaction time. The hex seems to align the eye on a much more subliminal level. I'll try to get some pictures up later.

"Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

No matter if the rear sight is on the barrel or on the receiver, you still have to line your eye up with the front and rear sights. Why would barrel mounted sights be less critical for head alignment?

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry

Don't know, never tried to figure it out, just observation.

I have set of the brockmens on my marlin 45/70. They work just fine, but you may or may not know, that they require tally rings.
and by the time you get the brockmans set up and the tally rings you are out a prety good chunk of dough !

I have a Brockmans Pop-up peep on a Mod 70 30-06 that Mark Stratton built some bases for. Mark fitted the pop-up part to his rear base. The issue I had was that marks location for the ringsd was slightly different that the Talley and that caused the pup-up part to hit the adjuster ring on my scope (Fixed 4 Leupold). This would not allow the pup-up part to collapse all the way and thus allow the scope to p[properly mount on the base. Also, since the front-to-back allowance of Marks base was rather unforgiving, i had a tough time finding a ring of the ones I had to fit. I called Gary at Talley and told him my issue. He went through and found a set of medium (the original ones I had were low) that were narrow (front-to-back) that would fit in MArk's bases. I got them, installed them and it all now works like a charm...

As an FYI, for future marlins, XS makes a nice setup thats reasonable. The only odd thing is that one hole takes a screw, the other is a post. They work well with factory fronts.

If I remember correctly , Talley is now installing their own peep and therefore should work w/ their parts.

the talley is not a pop-up style and will need to be taken off when the scope is mounted. I really like the brockman.
