Has anyone had any experience installing a Pachmyr Decelerator pad on their Marlin 1895 guide gun? Pachmyr says it is a simple prefit installation for the Marlin. However a friend of mine said he read an article that states the pad does not fit very well. It said the pad was noticebaly wider than the butstock all the way around . Anybody have any real experience with this?

[QUOTE]Originally posted by Shark Bait: Hi Shark Bait, I have a 45/70 model 1895 with a small triple X pad on it. I just happened to have the small pad around so put it to use. When I was up in Hudson's Hope shooting with Daryl Elder and Vasa my 45/70 was softer to shoot than Daryl's ported guide gun with the same loads. The 45/70 doesn't really require this pad and doesn't make it work very hard but it is very comfortable in such a light gun. The loads we shot were 405 grain bullets at 1850 fps.Just get a gunsmith to install your pad, it won't cost very much and should be a perfect fit. 470 Mbogo

I had problems fitting one to my 1895M Marlin. The pad was the "pre-fit" pad said to fit the 1895M. It was quite a bit larger than my stock, so I went to sand it down. Well, after a bit of sanding I sanded through the rubber and into the metal plate on the bottom. Now the pad is slowly coming apart. Have ordered a Kick-Eeze pad from Brownells, hopefully it will be a better fit.
