I've heard about that before, but had forgotten about it. Thanks for reminding me. One more concern, I guess, but not that big of a problem. Thanks,

B

I had a matched pair of No. 1's in 375 and 458 in the 70's and we had to put small neoprene or fiber washer between the hanger and barrel. The hanger is the part that attaches the fore arm to the rifle. Sometimes you can forego the washer if the fastener is not touching the barrel. Maybe Ruger has fixed this problem

I am considering a Number 1 in .405 Winchester. I plan on scoping it and am just wondering about accuracy potential. I have read varying reports on #1 accuracy. Any reports from actual big-bore #1 owners would be appreciated. Thanks,

B

i have a stainless 458 lott ruger 1 it will shoot 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards shooting 80 grns of imr 4320 500 grn woodeligh soft point 24" barrel mv velosity is 2300+-15 fps variation.

i also had a 375 ruger 1 stainless that shot remington safarie grade factory loads and handloads extremly well 1 to 1 1/4" groups at 100 yards using 300 grains bullets i never used anything lighter.

my uncle has a 338 win mag ruger 1 and it prints 1" at 100 yards with remington safarie grade ammo.

I have had two #1's. One was a 375 H&H. Didn't keep it that long but it didn't shoot all that well. My son killed an Elk in Colorado with it. The other one is a 45/70. It shoots extremly well. Under and inch with factory ammo. 300 grain winchester hollowpoint. Never done anything to it. I was talking to someone about it the other day and he said that the 45/70's were the exception to the rule for #1's. That they always shot well. Maybe the 405 will too.

I just bought a #1S in 300 WinMag last fall. I made up two loads using Hornady 180 gr bullets and a few Barnes X 180 grainers. This is the only rifle I have ever had that has shot two randomly picked loads at MOA or better with no extra load workup.

The only thing I did to it was adjust the ejector to keep from having the case thrown out so far.

I guess guns are a lot like women, some do and some don't. I had a #1 45-70 that wouldn't shoot well even with all the tricks. Sold it.

I have a #1S that was rechambered to 7MMDakota. It was a honest 1MOA rifle as a 7rem mag. & it still is, no tweeking for accuracy other than a trigger job. My other #1S is a rebarreled job in .338x74Keith. It has hanger/bedding mods for accuracy & it is also a 1MOA rifle. I think you will really like your new .405.

I had one in 416 Mag that once shot a 1" group at 200 yds with 350 Gr Speer Mag Tips..the only time I fired it at 200 yds. Usually (when I didn't flinch), it would print 1 1/4 inch 100 yd groups. What a handful, though...

My 1-H 375 is the most accurate rifle I've owned. I think the thick barrel makes the tropicals more intrinsically accurate than the smaller calibers. Bob
