I'm starting load development for a .458 Lott and would like some recommendations regarding the following 500gr soft points that will be used primarily on buffalo.

In 2006 my PH carried 450 gr Barnes Xs in his Lott. They had a good opening in the nose just like the 350 gr .416 X's I was using. After seeing the terrific penetration and destruction done by the 350 Barnes Xs I was using ... I'd try them in the Lott. "Buffalo" -- We're talking "Cape Buffalo" and not American Bision, eh?

Andy, I love the Woodies in doubles, but I give the nod to the A-frame where you may have the tendency to speed 'em up a bit. My 404 Jeff 400 gr A-frames worked perfectly on PG thru Buff...I pushed them at 2280 fps. I'm sure you'll have the Lott going 2250+. Gary DRSS NRA Lifer SCI DSC

Andy I got perfect performance in my 450 No2 double at 2150-2160 fps. with 480 Woodleigh Softs, and 500 Swift A Frames. The owner of Woodleigh told me the 500gr .458's are made the same as the 480's. In a 458 Lott if I was going to load over 2250fps I would use either the Swift A Frame, or the Trophy Bonded Bearclaw. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

Thanks guys. I have a bunch of 500gr Woodleighs already and was thinking of keeping them to 2,200fps or maybe moving up to the 550gr and loading it to about 2,100. Zedo, Sorry, when I say buffalo I'm referring to cape buffalo not bison.
