Would it be possible to convert the M03 Magnum to 500 J ? 2 rounds will fit in the magnum magazine ,the magnum bolt head im sure could be opened to fit the 500 j base ,the hard part would be getting the barrel made since the bolt head locks into the barrel ,and I doubt Mauser would make a one off for you

I think you are making it hard for yourself.

Why not just buy an existing CZ or Mauser 98
in 500 Jeffrey. A few out there.

The barrels from Mauser get produced in the same machine as Blaser barrels. So in theory it would be possible.... But I have really doubts. I see also see problems with the bullet puller (not sure what the English name is).

Why don't you consider a 458Lott. This would be available and it will be enough gun for all animals.

Tankhunter, if you ever get one, I promise I will never ask to shoot it!
I can load up my M03 in 404 Jeffery enough to kill on both ends!

Well it was just a thought ,if they offered the 500 Jeffery ,Mauser would have covered all bases with the M03 ,I already have the 458 Lott barrel .Have a Weatherby 378 which I will get rebarreled to 500 A 2 .
Cheers

I think there are issues with 500J.

I know Blaser originally had it listed for
the Blaser but didn't go ahead which is what
a mate and I thought would happen as we didn't
think the bolt would handle it.

Then in other guns like Mausers, you have to get the feeding correct.

The 500 Jeffery is listed and is being produced for the R8.

My advice, trade that M03 in for a R8.

I've talked with two people who had the 500 on an R8. They said the recoil was stiff....

Not sure that would be the rifles fault - choice of cartridge might have something to do with the recoil?

Without a brake in a rifle of reasonable weight, recoil in the 500 Jeffery is "sporty" but manageable.

Tankhunter,

I have bought an extra M03 barrel in .458 Lott and it is being rebarrel to .500 Jeff by Outschar in Austria. It should get it within two-three months.

That's the whole point. Choosing an R8 in a 500 Jeff is going to be a light 500 Jeff and the recoil will be stiff. Not sure what you are trying to get at here. I have no personal dealings with an R8.
