Now that I have a new project, which looks like it will be a pair of Encores an 18 to 20 rifle and a 15 to 16 pistol, I need to see which I like better the .50 Alaskan or the .50-140. I have to say both have a lot going for them. The .50-140 is old and I like my 45-70 SSK contender, so Im leaning toward it.
I also want to know what you-all think about camo Parkerizing the pair.

I have a 50 Alaskan barrel on an Encore. It is 14" and has a brake. Built by VVCG. So far up to 52 grs of RL7 behind a 525 gr Cast Perf. bullet. Velocity is somewhere in the 1400 to 1500 range. I will look at my data and let you know an exact figure.

i'm a bit partial to the 50 alaskan myself. i went with it as the brass is easier to get. i have a 71 win. in 348 and a ruger #1 in 450 alaskan. i only have to keep 348 brass here for the three guns.

I built a .50 Alaskan on a Magnum Research BFR (10" barrel....the weight would be comparable to a 15" Encore). Recoil isn't as bad as you'd expect and the gun does about 1.5" at 25 yards. Even with 500 - 625 grain bullets, it pounds your hand no more than a short Casull. I did eventually add a muzzle brake, which is something I'd definitely recommend on an Alaskan Encore.
