gents: still awaiting the echols legend stocks I ordered last summer. however, in the meantime for those of you who may use them, does anyone have an opinion regarding barrel length with an echols synthetic legend stock? or is it merely preference? my stocks were ordered with a cut for a .700 muzzle diameter (per D'Arcy's recommendation) and the magnum fill. i was thinking 22" or so but am curious as to what others may think.

A 22" barrel will be handy but I honestly don't notice the 25" tubes on my M70 or my CZ. The velocity loss with the shorter tube won't matter much in the field IMO. In this case I would say go with what D'Arcy recommends as to balance and "feel" of the rifle as a whole. He makes VERY good user rifles and I would listen to his input. Let us know how your rifle turns out. I would love to have an Echols rifle in my safe. John There are those that do, those that dream, and those that only read about it and then post their "expertise" on AR!

My .375 Wea has a 24" Montana No.4 barrel - .650. I had McMillan paint the Echols stock brown. Magnum fill, weight 9 lbs 10 oz with Leu 1.75 - 6. .............................................

could someone explain this to me (text of an email exchange between D'Arcy and I regarding the stocks: I recommend cutting the barrel channel for a .700 muzzle dia which is a typical #5 contour. This will allow you to use a #3 contour (.630) or a #4 (.670) or the #5 (.700) for any typical 375 barrel. Williams I PC bottom metal. However given the option I would use the Williams original Winchester style Steel 2 PC Trigger Bow and Floor-Plate myself and this would allow you the option of using about any Bottom Metal that was available as your Gunsmith can easily alter the inletting to accept what ever Guard assembly you eventually decide on. I thought once a bottom metal unit was selected e.g. Sunny Hill, it was mated to the barrelled action and then inletted to the stock. I just did not understand what he was talking about. Can someone help?
