Might should have posted in the gunsmith section, but I know some of you guys that hang out here have delt with this. I have a CZ 416 Rigby, the stock has some figure to it but not much, it looks kinda like a high class pellet gun stock for the most part. I have thought about stripping the spay finish and going with an oil finish. I've used tru oil and tungs oils many time, but not sure that what I want. I've noticed some of the oil finish I've seen on custom rifles come out pretty dark, and thats what I want. It may be the better grades of walnut dark up with the oil better, and its my understanding you shouldnt stain walnut. Anyway looking for info on what oil may get me where I want to go. Gringo, I have used tung oil on one stock with multiple coatings...You can even thin it down a little. I have also used boiled linseed oil, but take rags outside and burn up or dispose in a metal can and seal..FIRE HAZZARD BIG TIME Spontaneous combustion Gave a very dark finish to the walnut wood.. I've had excellent results with Pro Custom Oil Finish. It's a tung oil/modified urethane. Brownells has it. | |||
