I'm planning a 500 A2. What barrel length should I go with.

Was talking with Dan Pederson on this a couple years ago...(on the 510 wells, of course)

20 should be the minimum, and 24 the max, with his suggestion being 22... and not for the normal "i like a barrel this long"... it was due to eff. .. the expansion ratio is such that a long long barrel can add incremental FPS, but not like a small bore.

I, myself, like 23" big bore barrels, but will go from 20-26, depending

23-24 inches is about the best compromise in the .500A2. I built mine with a 26 inch barrel for a tad more velocity with slow powders, but were I to do it over, I'd chop it to 24.-Rob

I would go with at least 22 inches, and probably 24 inches in order to keep muzzle blast reasonable.
