I have a whitworth and was contemplating rechambering to the Lott. Was curious if this is going to be as cut and dry as it seems. I probably won't mark as such. Unless you need the marginal increase in power, I'd leave it as it is. The current ammunition in 458 WM is a step above past offerings.

Thanks biebs Yeah I don't need the extra power was just contemplating the idea of the.38/.357 idea. But in all reality it kicks the crap out of me as it is. The one Whitworth I saw converted did not have a long enough magazine box so it could only hold win mag ammo down. The shooter loaded Lott ammo in the chamber and Win Mag in the magazine. Seemed like a waste to me. Matthew

The action would need to be opened up and a longer magazine box would also be needed. It can be done but costly. _____________________________________________________ A 9mm may expand to a larger diameter, but a 45 ain't going to shrink Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened. - Winston Churchill

It would be easier to rebarrel a .375H&H to .458 Lott. Jim Kobe rebarrelled a .375H&H Whitworth to .400H&H for me. The magazine was already H&H length and the action was already opened up. .

I took a CZ .458 WM and made it a Lott. That is real easy White Mountains Arizona

I did the same thing and trimmed the tube to 22" but the main reason was the magazine was so big that the 500 gr 458 cartridges (up to 5 down) sloshed around in there. The longer Lott round better suited the magazine. It is a nice rifle as it has a LOT of firepower but is also heavy. My favorite 45 caliber rifle is still a 458WM in a old Browning Safari grade. That rifle swings like a bird gun and weighs than 8 lbs w/o a scope. No problem getting 2150 FPS with a 500 gr bullet using AA2230 powder with no compaction.

A Lott with a 500gr Hornady seated at the cannelure doesn't fit in a Mark-V action! I tend to use more than enough gun

I trimmed mine to 22 as well. It holds 5 down. Went synthetic pretty handy gun. I agree a 30/06 length mauser action gun would be good but if you have the ginormous CZ it just doesn't look or seem right with the small win mag cartridges LOL
