I'm thinking about putting a safari express 375 into a standard model 70 long action walnut stock. Besides openning up the barrel channel and inletting the recoil lug, what else needs to be done. Will the magazine box fit in or does this need to be openned up? Would the second cross bolt also be needed if its bedded well?
Thanks

I can't comment on swapping stocks, but I'm curious, why not sand the stock down? Inletting was always a pain for me, seems easier to take the old finish off the current stock, use a wood rasp to make it the shape you want, then oil it back up. You could even add an ebony forend tip and/or extend/shorten the LOP while you're at it.

Just a thought.

CDNN has some unfinished express stocks. So that would be a blank canvas...although they're uncheckered.

Also, if you look long enough, you can find an older Super Express stock which is a lot more svelt than the current log. They are a bolt in and already have the second cross bolt. They were available with a red pad and both straight comb and a bit of Monte Carlo for scope use.

Either way, any long action stock will have a big enough mag cut-out. Some may be cut for a two-piece trigger guard/floorplate set-up though.

Thanks for the tip, McCray, looks like they have a lot of other M70 stocks as well.

You will have to open the mag well up a little in the front. It is no big deal and is totally hidden from sight.

If I really wanted to slim down a M70 safari express, I would look at putting a slimmer profiled barrel on it along with the new stock.

One day I going to do so with mine along with a syn. stock.
