I bought the above rifle this last week. I pulled it apart to look at everything and I found the front action screw ties right into a machined block on the underside of the barrel. There is also a factory cross bolt at the back of the action. Does rifle need any more reinforcement so the stock will not split? I am specifically thinking another cross bolt and glass bedding. This gun also has pillar bedding. This rifle differs from the Safari Mag I had in 375 H&H. Is this normal? Thanks for any info/experience you can share.

Yes get your rigby glass bedded from the little floating lug that sits in the barrel tie down back around the action tang. Quite often in the cz's the barrel tie down lug buts against a plastic piece of material. Have that removed and replaced with the same size material but in steel, have that bedded in to the stock. Funnily enough when I pulled my cz lux 9.3 apart it was set up better than the big bores, two cross bolts for and aft the mag box and a proper simple f style barrel lug on the barrel, much simpler affair than the safri magnum setup. Either way the cz's are great guns just need a tweak here and there. You could add a cross bolt as well if you want, and if it where a lott I would, my friend just bedded his .416 Rigby and it's fine, but helearned his lesson as it cracked the first stock in 8 shots, I have a custom kevlar composite in my own cz .416.

It is not possible to bed these rifles too securly.I had mine bedded plus two new heavier cross bolts installed. Once you move up above 375HH the cartridges are simply much more destructive towards the integrity of the rifle stock. I recommend you cross bolt and bed your 416 Rigby, too many sad stories from those who didn't. They are a good and very reasonably priced rifle but they need this work. (They are not alone in this by the way.) On my CZ 550s (one in 416 Rigby and one in 458 Lott) I put in 2 external cross bolts fore and aft of the magazine and two internal cross bolts one just aft of the main recoil lug and one just aft of the "F Block". Consider steel bed instead of glass. Make sure there is space between the tang and the wood, between 2 and 3 32nds.
