500 Mbogo Status Report
The gunsmith working on this was just accepted to medical school, starting in July. His machinery will go into storage at Oak Ridge, Tennessee while he is dissecting cadavers nearby.

The 500 Mbogo is getting a Vais muzzle brake, removable with thread protector cap.
25" barrel without the brake. Muzzle diameter is .850". Brake will be big, ugly, and effective, and the 500 Mbogo will be finished up, surely before July 2008.

The "Fifty Aught Eight" will make a nice battery companion for the "Forty Ought Seven."
Buffalo brothers, Tatanka and Mbogo.

I doubt I will be needing a "Sixty Naught Nine."

Locate a compact BMG repeater action and I'll make up a 666-09 for you. Big Grin

How about a Harris Dessert Rhino with 16.5" 50 BMG barrel for starters?

Rebarrel it with a 16.666" long .666 Teufel barrel. It is a single-shot shell-holder action, IIRC,

Use it as a shop mule for load development and initial safari sorties. Repeaters can come later. Wink

Sounds perfect to me!!

All we need is a overcoat made of railroad ties to soak up the recoil.......

Got a link to that plinker?

That McBros repeater action is the way to go.
I shall aspire to one of those.
23" barrel, 20 pounds, chambered for "Sixty Naught Nine," AKA .666 Teufel, ought to kick like hell. thumb

Makes the same kind of energy as the 2-Bore with follow up shots available! hillbilly

Nothing an artillary style brake and a hydraulic damper won't fix. I just happen to have both right here.

What TWIST for the Styxty Naught Nine?
The 500 Mbogo has a 1:10" TWIST for lobbing 750-grainers at 2300 fps toward yonder targets, and lighter bullets at higher velocity work just fine within 500 yards.

The 500 Mbogo ought to be about 12.5 pounds scoped and ready, not counting the ammo weight. hillbilly

Last time I saw something like that Buck Rogers was firing it.

Best of luck getting your projects finished before the gunsmith starts his residency.

I have been following your exploits of late, but as usual have nothing of substance to contribute. Roll Eyes

I think that peg in the forend must be the recoil bungee attachment point.

Of course! Also for attachment of the Caldwell Lead Bipod.

I have two smiths working on 500 Mbogo (CZ) and 400/.395 NE (Ruger No.1). Next up will be the .395 Ruger Max (Hawkeye Stainless) and the 300 Lapua (CZ).

Then I am open for other ideas . rotflmo

I hadn't thought about that, but the empty rings could function as an aperature sight as well as eyeball retriever. thumb

O.K. already, the better platform for the .666 Teufel. Don't forget to add the washer-style recoil lug, or two or three of them:

And back to the 500 Mbogo, some McMillan stocks that work with a CZ550Mag action:
