I was wondering if any makes custom bottom metal for a P-14 enfield.

I'll be making a new magazine box for mine, but am debating going with custom metal when I make a real stock for it.

Paul H, I'm lazy (time challenged), but if you're not, Brownell's used to sell a jig and instructions for taking the "bent" triggerguard and turning it into a "straightened" triggerguard. Anybody who could cut and weld himself a new bolt handle should have no trouble with that. The required resources in addition to the "bent" triggerguard are welding rod, the jig, and torch/MIG/TIG according to taste. If you use the jig, your screw holes will end up in the right place. I've got the thingie around here somewhere.

You may wonder what lazy people (with no welder; got oxyacetylene and welding rod but no experience) do:

I'm the only person around hereabouts outside of a gun shop who knows diddly about P-14/17s, Rem. 30s, so when I order the stock, I just get one inlet for a bent floorplate. Looks fine to me....and everybody else is way too busy looking at the cartridges to look at the rifle....

I like the bent floor plate, so don't plan to straighten it.

I don't think I'll go the aftermarket route anyhow, but was wondering what is out there.

Hi Paul. there is a company in northern California called London Guns that makes bottom metal for the P14/17's, it's cast but looks pretty good. You can get Model 30 bottom metal from gun parts inc. Tom Burgess makes really beautiful bottom metal (and everything else). As mentioned the Brownells tooling let's you cut and weld. I see now Boyd's is making it's laminated JRS stocks for P17's with stock metal, so maybe you'll want to go that way. - Dan

PME made 416 Rigby and 505 Gibbs bottom metal and followers. The bottom metal was like the Mauser Oberndorf style, hinged with fingerbow release. I don't know if you can still get them now that their business has changed. I have length and width dimensions for a 500 J box (but not depth), if you are interested.

Thanks, Bob
