It will be interesting see how of extra price has gone towards the rifle and how much of it is what CZ figure the 404, 450 and 505 market will bear.

Can't understand the 416 Rigby not beeing there. You would think there would have to be potential buyers for both the 416 and 450. Ed Weatherbys golfing game is funded by such principles.

You are paying for better wood, matte finish, the barrel band swivel, and custom barrels, that are not coming from the factory. Try to duplicate it for the bucks!

So is the rifle made in America?...sort of like CZ USA being the gunsmith for the CZ action.

Exactly. I don't know whether they will eventually be made at the factory. Maybe??

Can we assume then these stocks won't need replacing when sujected to heavy recoil? Would make a nice change if so.

Mike as CH said the 416 has been available for a while even here in Aust just ask PC.

I sent an email to the CZ, Aust enquirry person but have not had a response yet about whether they intend to supply Aust.

I'm wondering about the length of the mag, my BBK is 99mm and I had to shorten cases to 76mm(about 2-3mm) for my 416sw(505 case improved) and Woodleigh list the 505 bullets about the same length as the 416 bullets. I beleive the CZ550 is shorter how will it handle a 505 Gibbs?

I just got back from the SCI Convention, and CZ had the .404, .450 Rigby and .505 Gibbs on display with new literature on each one. Cz calls them the "Safari Classics" line.

I was impressed. They will be assembled in by CZ in the US as mentioned, however, there are several custom options to choose from. Rust blue, matte blue or polished blue. Bolt jewelling, glass bedding, and recoil reducers installed in the stock and muzzle brakes. All of these can be chosen by the buyer. The wood is the upgraded walnut. Prices start at around $1750 MSRP with options adding $70 to $150 depending on which one.

416SW,

I think the cannelure position on Woodleigh 416 bullets will be much closer to the base than for the 505.

I think the price is a little disappointing, especially considering the price of the 416 Rigby and 458 Lott. I'll just have to save a little longer.

I spoke with Alice today at SHOT and the guns are available but only on special order. I am taking orders. Lead time is about 6 weeks, CZ has no finished rifles in stock. Their pricing policy to dealers is such that it's a level playing field and there's no room to discount. Best I can do is to pick up the shipping, in other words your price is the published CZ price. Email us at russ@vh2q.com, or call us at 503 263 3787 to discuss specs, options, pricing, and to get on the list.(On the other hand, we can offer good pricing on the "standard" CZ guns...email for quotes).

I'm as excited as anyone about CZ offering these new calibers... But Sorry, I just don't get it...

If you buy a new CZ for $750.00

put a new pac-nor 505 Barrel on it for $450.00 (that includes squaring the action)

better sights from NECG at $200.00,

You're only in for $1400.00

Assuming a sale price of $1800, thrown in the balance of $400 and get the stock cross-bolted ($50.00), bedded ($100.00) and the whole thing rust blued for $200.00 and you're still $50.00 ahead with argueably a better gun.

New guy- You forgot to add the $500 in custom machining and gunsmithing required to get a 505 gibbs to feed from a CZ550. It's not trivial! If the factory gun feeds, your bucks ahead.-Rob

I think you would need to bring in it yourself because although Winchester Australia brings CZs into Australia these rifles are being made in America by CZ USA from the CZ 550 action.

If you brought it in yourself an approximate cost would be

$1850US = $2400AUS

You would then have to pay to have an export licence done in the US and that could cost $150AUS to $250US.

Then 10% GST plus freight. I am not sure but import duty of 20% as there has been some talk that will no longer apply.

So assuming no duty it would be about $3000AUS

If you are interested on the mechanics/costs of bringing one in then PC who is on this thread recently brought a rifle into Australia.

I too handled the rifles this past weekend, I am happy that they are offered but was not impressed really by the wood. Maybe refinishing it would bring it out better. One thing that I thought was really hoaky was that they still have the hole in the bolt knob. I asked the guy why and he said something about better grip. My butt, checker it if you want better grip. I have plain bolts on all my rifles and have not had a problem. Anyways, send it off to a good smith for a proper bolt handle install and be good to go.

The extra options are nice. the cost is because they have to produce them here the guy said.

other exciting news, they just bought Dan Wesson, maybe we'll get some of the old revolver models produced again and available in Kalifornia.

Point well taken, but I'm still not sold. It just seems like a lot.

I think I'm with Ray on this one, I'll have to keep an eye on the used market.
