I'm guessing its German made, that seems like about .409 caliber and I guess its a rimmed cartridge. The gun has a 33" barrel, and overall its pretty cheap. Just tell me anything, as I've never heard of the caliber or the maker. I'm guessing its an old target rifle?

Its a swiss infantry gun in a rimfire cartridge, not what I was expecting.

The 10.4x42R Vetterli was a civilian target and hunting round,it was a centerfire cartridge. If the 10.4x42R was ever made in rimfire ,I am unaware of it. The 10.4x38R was the Swiss military cartridge for about 20 years, from the mid 1860s-mid 1880s,it was a rimfire cartridge. It was used in the conversions of rifled muskets before the Vetterli was adopted. I have read of the Swiss Vetterlis being converted to centerfire and rechambered to to 10.4x42R,although I can't understand why,as the 10.4x38R centerfire was availible in Switzerland. It was mainly chambered in Martini rifles. Cases for the centerfire conversions of 10.4x38R as well as the 10.4x42R can be made from .348 Winchester brass. WC

Ok, looking back it looks like I jumped to conclusions. I found one gun, a civilian one, in 10.4x42R, and then I found multiple service guns in "10.4 Rimfire" and I just assumed they were the same. Thanks!
