I was looking at a Meopta 1-4x22 scope yesterday and was impressed: 30 mm, very clear well priced ($550).

I am thinking about putting one on my new .458 Lott. The only question is whether or not it can stand the pounding of the heavy caliber.

Any of you guys know anything about these European imports?

I have 2 Meoptas....they are terrific.

The model I love for a large bore is the Artemis 3100, with the German post reticle AND an illuminated red dot for when you need it.

30mm tube...great eye relief.

The ones they are selling for $548 at SWFA are the Meostar series. I think the Meostar has an aircraft aluminimum tube, whereas the Artemis series has a steel tube.

I can get the Artemis from a different source for the exact same price.

How's there warranty? Who do I send it to if something breaks?

GAHunter,

Check the eye relief...I own a couple and the quoted eye relief does not seem very generous on some of their scopes. I bought a Meopta 4x32mm for my 9.3x62 and I was a little worried about this. I reality its actually been fine, but the 9.3x62 is a pussy cat compared to what you want it for.

With regards the warrenty, in the UK I think it comes with 15 years..might be different in the States though..

All in all, they are quite a popular medium priced scope over here...I know several people have them and off the top of my head, I don't recall anybody having any problems with them..

Regards,

Pete

I believe that here in the States it is a lifetime warranty.

GAHUNTER,

Here's the website, perhaps useful in helping to make a final decision.

http://meopta.com/

I don't have a Meopta but have friends that do. They are happy with them. Like yourself I was considering one of their scopes for a similar application and am currently pondering the 1.5-5x20 or the 1-4x22 option.

They aappear to have a good, solid reputation here in Europe as a good middle-priced, solid quality/value/rugged scope. I'm confident it is made to stand up to the pounding of a .458 Lott as the scope is probably conceived as a stalking or DG scope. Then again, I've seen expensive, middle-priced and cheapo scopes fail, too; there's no guarantee.

Cheers,

I not familiar with Meopta scopes and didnt know they made a DG scope. It looks to be short like the 30mm leupold of simular style, which may not fit between the rings on a CZ. Will the Meopta fit between the rings on a CZ. Sure looks like a good scope.

thanks, Billy

I took a look around the meopta web site and notice the listed eye relief is 80 mm, which is a little over 3â€. I would be concerned that amount would be inadequate on a rifle such as the Lott. I have a 450 Ackley which is ballisticaly identical to the Lott and found my 1.5 – 5 Leupold did not have enough eye relief when shooting 500 gn bullets. Leupold list the eye relief on the 1.5 – 5 as 3.6†to 4.4†depending on magnification and I would be looking for something around 5†ideally.

A lot of guys in the past have recommended the FX-II 2.5x20mm Ultralight Leupold. Though I have not used one myself, the eye relief listed as 4.9†should be about right for the bigger case/bullet combos.

I have a 7 x 50 Meopta and had it mounted on my 7mm WSM . The eye relief is short and on occassion it made contact with my eyebrow .Good scopes but not something I would put on a hard kicker . Mine's on a Hornet now .

The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.

I looked at the entire range of scopes from meopta most have plus or minus 80mm of eye relief, that is a bit short for anything bigger than an 06
