CZ Safety . . . oh boy Login/Join

So I picked up my CZ-550 today and I'm generally very happy with the rifle. I'm not having any of the feeding problems mentioned by others, but I do have a question about the safety. The safety will only slide backward into the "safe" position while the bolt is open. When the bolt is closed, the safety can not be put on "safe," however, I can move the safety from "safe" to "fire" while the bolt is closed. Is this the standard safety operation as no other rifle I've seen works like this?

That is wrong.
Needs to be fixed.
I have never had one do that.
My work on CZ triggers and safeties is limited to adjusting the trigger only.
I am not a qualified gunsmith.
I am an unqualified tinkerer with lots of ugly guns.

Send it back to CZ or get out the manual and get it out of the stock and commence inspecting and tinkering. hilbily

No, send it back for repair. My 550FS has a 3 position safety and safe is all the way back, bolt locked down, safe in the middle but bolt will open and Fire is all the way forward.

Well, I do not have a CZ but when this happens to me with one of my rifles it is because I have already released the firing pin by SAFELY dry firing.

And then later I go -- hey -- I need to put the safety on (or just want to show someone how it works). Which will not happen, because the rifle is no longer cocked.

Yes, I know this does not happen to anyone else... Wink And I understand this is not your problem here.

Good luck with the rifle.

Okay, you guys are going to laugh at me for this. I pulled the rifle out and tried the safety again, but this time putting a little more force than last time ... it worked. I guess I was expecting it to click on and off as easy as my other rifles.

Looks like I had a case of babying my rifle. homer

Thanks for the help guys.
