I am looking for a good gunsmith to rechamber a 375 H&h to 375 weatherby. Anyone have a recommendation. I know I am not going to gain that much but I just want one. The last time I ask most told me that there was not much gain hut I know someone has gunsmith they really like.

Lex Webernic at Rifles Inc, Pleasanton TX. Or Hill Country Rifles in New Braunfels Tx. Both are class folks with good work.

And if there is some reason you should or should not do something, they'll be straight with you.

gerryb,

If it were me, I'd just step on up to the 375 RUM and never look back...

300gr bullets at 2800fps.

But there are a lot of advantages to a .375 Weatherby, shooting .375 H&H ammo in a pinch, etc.
Factory .375Wby brass can be easily handloaded to give a 300-grain bullet 2800 fps in a 26" barrel, same as the factory-loaded .375Wby ammo,
with 300-grain Nosler partition at 2800 fps.
I have verified this with chronograph.
About 2740 to 2750 fps in a 24" barrel.

Any gunsmith worth his salt can rechamber a .375 H&H to .375 Weatherby.
The .375 RUM actually will not clean up the .375 H&H neck/shoulder juncture on a simple rechamber.
You must set the barrel back or re-barrel a .375 H&H converted to .375RUM.
Otherwise you end up with a .375RUM with a shoulder angle switch in mid shoulder,
sort of like it is trying to venturify into a .375Wby shoulder,
which really is what it wants to be anyway: .375WBY.
So, do you want to ship the rifle or deliver and pick up in person?

Rusty McGee has done a couple for me,
They are of great accuracy,
A Winchester and a Kentucky CZ.
He posts here as member "roughone."
PM him to ask if it may be done.
I know Bill Alexander in Tallahassee,
He too has done some work for me,
And for sure there hangs a shingle for thee.
Walt Sherman, my good old Florida Smith,
Might still be available forthwith.
Maybe not.
