Well she is finally finished. I started the project in January of 2007. I started with a pre 64 Winchester model 70, a piece of Claro Walnut and some ideas. I first had the walnut by Roger Biesen in his pattern with an ebony tip. I then inletted the action and ER Shaw barrel the the 95% inletted stock. I made some mistakes but it turned out pretty good. Next I sent the rifle to Jim Dubell at Delta Gun shop for the metal work. Jim added the Talley barrel band, NECG banded front sight, and NECG rear island. He also cleaned everything up, adjusted the trigger, added the two cross bolts, added the Talley bases, bedded it and fixed the safety. Jim is a master at working at metal! I then sent it to Bill Soverns to clean up the stock and fix some of my mistakes. Bill finished it for my, squared it up and checkered the stock with a wrap around front end and grip with top saddle checkering. He also applied a beautiful rust blued finish. She isn't perfect but I'm pleased with how she turned out. If fits my perfectly and balances like a dream.

Geoff, Wonderful piece of wood and a nice-looking rifle. Was just in Spokane and dropped in on the Biesens. Al is 90 and moving slow. Roger is himself and first class. Met Paula who had checkered the bolt handle on my own .375 when I asked Roger to do some work on it a few more than several years ago. Looked at some of Paula's engraving. If you want to add some minimal engraving, say screw heads and maybe a line or two, she is very, very good. If you want to go much more, she can do it brilliantly, including using a photo of one of your trophies to put on the floor plate. Regards, Tim

Like it says in the Bible, "Pride goeth before a fall" but, I'd sure be proud to own it! Beautiful rifle. I only hope my .416 Rigby will turn out as nice. "I ask, sir, what is the Militia? Yes, absolutely gorgeous. But form follows function, always. How does it shoot? How much does it weigh, bare-naked-empty, without the scope?

She weighs 8 pounds 15 ounces empty with no scope, I'll let you know how she shoots after this weekend!

It is funny you mention that, it is all Roger Biesen's doing. I can't even figure out how he did it! It was one of the first things Bill Soverns mentioned when he got it, he thought it was very cool.

I finally got out and shot her today and I more then happy with the results. This is my first rifle with Biesen type stock and it scopes up the recoil beautifully. The more I shoot, the more I realize that I shoot much better with a solid well balanced rifle with some meat on it. It just sits down better for me and I feel more confident. I made sure I tried some quick shots an worked the bolt quickly and she is smooth as silk and ejected and fed perfectly.
