What... Guess I'll continue with plan "B" as my fail-safe project and when the "PH" action comes in it will just lay in the back of the safe until I get to it. So how far can one push the CZ 550 action? No comments on the cz question just irratated with the other. Rodney.

I was going to have my PH action made into a .450 Dakota. I have the brass, dies, and have even loaded some ammo in that caliber waiting for the PH action. I will give them another month or so and then, if they don't come through, I think I will be calling AHR to put one together for me. Then, if it does come in later, I can use it for some other project.

I don't know about you guys but MRC made me pay for the action when I ordered it months ago.

Yup, they talked about this one for years. Payment began early this year though, instead of deposits 1, 2 or 3 years ago.

Frankly, if they deliver this September I belive it will be the fastest delivery of a new item once money changed hands since I've been on the board.

I cannot apologize enough for the delays but I also cannot apologize for things that are out of my control. I will not sent out a product if I feel that the parts are no good. I feel we are VERY close to finishing this and the CM parts are at Machining now, there are only a few more parts we are waiting on and they are made in house so it shuoldn't be long for those. All I can ask is PLEASE be a little more patient. I know some of you have been waiting a long time, a real long time, but please understand we have put every dime we have and every ounce of energy into this project and I want it finished as much as you do. If any of you want to visit us to discuss it, we would be more than happy to speak with you and show you where we are on it. Again I am very sorry it has taken longer than we expected but we are getting very close.

I certainly agree its good to have Montana Jeff face the music so gracefully and with such strong convictions for getting this finalized. You have to remember this is a group that has had lots of experience with promises that later turned into vaporware. We are all awaiting these actions and I for one have money on the line and frankly hope my optimism and patience is eventuialy rewarded. If these actions really are as good as promised they will sell like hotcakes so some extra care in ensuring we dont get lemons is well worth the extra time. I strongly suggest you start updating folks on here on some regular basis on your progress good or bad as that will do nothing but enhance your reputation.-Rob

Agreed, at least we didn't pay 3 years in advance (yet Eeker). But in Jeff's defense he does keep his website www.montanarifleco.com updated with the slipping dates. At this point my only regret is I did not order 3 instead of 2.

Wow! This PH action is going to distinguish the company head and shoulders above all others!

I looked around at www.montanarifleco.com "Actions":

PH Action:
4140 CM for $940
r415 SS for $1006 clap

No such animal as a Magnum Mauser 98 stainless steel action has ever existed before has it?

Now there is something bigger and better, The PH Action:
Receiver Thread: 1.2-16 TPU UNF 2B
Thread Depth to Mauser Collar: .850"
Rec. Ring O.D.: 1.505"
Internal Mag Box Lenght: 4.043"
Bolt Diameter: .805"

If I can get a synthetic stock to fit it, I want one of those stainless actions, and a certain custom action maker may go piss up a rope and tell himself it is raining.

What is the plan for rifle stocks for the PH besides custom walnut or laminate?
AHR would do well to contract with MRC for actions for all their monsters.

Please tell me there is going to be a PH synthetic stock available for me and AHR.
Ryan Breeding might want some too. Big Grin

I have joked about the delivery times, but I think we are all going to see something that was worth the wait here.

Probably be a good bet that we'll see and MRC action before we see the Remington Spartan 45/70 deliveries.

I am sorry to hear that!
Does he do his stocks by SWAG, or does he have an action and precise dimensional inletting patterned from it?
Has he learned how to make the forearms straight instead of banana shaped?

Jeff, my plan is to have you turn my action into a barreled action in .450 Dakota. I have already been talking to Jeff at Accurate Innovations about a stock. Do you konw of someone who could do the express sights for me.

Yes, if you want us to do the barrel we can also install the sights. It's not a cheap date, but we do it on our Summit Alaskan and Safari Rifles.

Just looked under Custom Shop, you show a 1.225" barrel. Anything bigger available? 1.300 to 1.350? Is the 505 Gibbs available? Your list stops at 458.

What is the cost for integral sights as mentioned above?

Sorry guys, I was not on here for the last 3-4 days. We will put the PH barrel contours on the website as soon as we have them finished.
Sights are generally $800-$1200 depending on what options you want.

Rich,

I should have been a little more clear, I was asking about barrels. On their barrel site they show the 505 bore, on the action site they stop at 458. Neither site shows barrels larger than 1.225 except for the 1.75 50 BMG. Both of my actions are Gibbs bolt face. I have a brand P coming for one and was thinking I would order a 505 barrel from Jeff for the other. Just looking for information on contours.

Barrel contours will be..."special" for this one. We will be using 1 3/8 steel and in some cases 1 1/2 if we need to. The focus right now however is to ge the action completed and then we'll jump into the barrel contours and sizes. Hope that clears it up! And by all means, I was serious about if someone wants to stop by and see progress, you are welcome...however don't do it next week...I will be ...testing...rifles...

Pacnor and few others make 1.35" and
1.5" barrels any length. With hairy cartridges
like my 585 and 700 you need heavy barrels.
That is why we asked that PH action have a bigger
barrel thread to match the bigger diameter action.
If you saw pics of other .685" guns, you will see
how a heavy barrel looks. Only with PH and a little
planning you will get big power at much, much less
money spent. Once you have 700HE cases, you can
shoot for 3 bucks per round, even with jkt
bullets. As brass lasts forever. A good contour for
my 585 is 1.35 down to 1.0" and my 700 1.5"
to 1.2", from my experiments and testing. Ed
