My CZ 550 Medium Full Stock 9.3x62mm is also one of those amazing CZ rifles that does everything right, right out of the box.
Factory ammo, three shots into one hole at 100 yards.
No plastic parts masquerading as metal, and the walnut actually looks tiger-striped.
I like the set trigger function on it, may help with my accuracy. The safety is also one of those side safeties from the factory too. I would not want to change it either, push forward to fire, works for me.
Double-nut firing pin retainer, no C-clip.

One cheap little improvement all big bore sheet-metal-magazine-boxed rifles need is reinforcement of the front wall of that box. This goes for M70 Winchesters and Ruger M77 also, any with sheet metal magazine box:

Soldered on steel by gunsmith, or epoxy a steel plate yourself,
or be sure the magazine box front wall is bedded tight against epoxy between it and the recoil lug recess area, so you don't get a dented magazine front to impair feeding:

Some factory CZ rifles are fine, some not. Even the same two rifles in identical caliber in the shop - one is sweet and another is rough.

I don't want any low to medium class factory rifle or pistol regardless of manufacturer either.

I have one custom CZ-550 Magnum in .375 H&H. It begins with selection one good out of many factory rifles, completely disassembled, hand aligned, polished, tuned (including chamber etc.), engraved, refinished. Custom stock built and fitted.

The result is nice and 100 % reliable rifle, but at 4x the price of factory one.

Got it back and it had slightly fewer feeding problems. Sold it and wound up with another 550 in a trade. Also a .458 Lott which severely cracked it's stock through the pistol grip on round number 25. Next was a buddy who bought a .416 Rigby. This one shot and fed well but he had the trigger FALL off of it the week before he was headed out on his first buffalo hunt.

I've seen several CZ big bores that will bounce their safety to the on position in recoil. Overall I can not figure why anybody would buy a CZ 550 UNLESS they were willing to have it immediately gone over and modified to make it into a usable rifle. I sure as hell would not trust a stock CZ rifle on any DG hunt.

I've heard that CZ has addressed some of these issues with their later model rifles. Can they be trusted? Are they really sorted out now? My money says probably not.

Those in the know are saying Biebs will have a custom 505 Gibbs for sale, in the near future.

I've got less than $2500 into my CZ 550 in 500 Jeffery including smith work, Talley QR rings and Leupold 1.5-5x scope. It did not feed perfectly out of the box, but three gunsmiths later (Harlan who built it, Wayne at AHR, and Kevin Weaver (my local smith)) it functions perfectly and shoots sub MOA. It points like a fine shotgun, perfect for jump shooting elk in the black timber. For those of us with more limited funds, it was worth the trip.

Regards,

Chuck

I have two Ceska a CZ 550 Magnum 375 H & H Magnum and CZ 550 Safari Magnum 458 Lott. My testimony may not be very valid, for I have only ten shots fired in the CZ 550 Magnum 375 H & H Magnum by checking the recoil also food and (pulled up without support) and in terms of food was satisfactory. I shot a cardboard box that was far from my about 50 meters, which was carrying a black plastic patch color reference. All shots were to the box, I did not look grouping. With 458 Lott I have not fired yet, but feeding loaded cartridges is satisfactory, even mixing several cartridges of 458 Lott and some 458 Winchester Magnum. When I go to prove it I'll tell you. Obviously it is not the same shoot in a territory like Spain (although in summer we have quite high temperatures) to shoot in Africa. Anyway, it seems to me that once you buy a gun (or any other product) to come perfectly adjusted and to provide satisfactory customer service without having to customize it to work. It is my humble opinion. Regards,

Ovny

Hi Ovny

Thank ypu for that.

When you say "food", I think you mean "feed".

I realise this is not your first (or even, maybe your third language), and your English is much better than my Spanish.

I would love to hear about your experiences with the Lott as well.

Hello ... everything I write in the forum through the translator "google". Exactly my idea was to say "feed" but has been translated as "food". I am sorry. English aptender should therefore also I have a test of promotion and I have an English test. By the way I'm coming afraid to shoot with my Lott as much displease me a few shots the stock is split or not be able to group the impact by having the twisted barrel. That is unacceptable in a dangerous weapon for hunting and over it a new weapon.

Regards.

Ovny.

Another "tweet" from Duane, time is money.
Surely he means that changes in C.O.L. and bullet nose shape are often involved in feed problems ...
