Is there anybody out there that actually has a rifle in this chambering and could tell me about it?

I don't know of any that were made. However, there are custom dies available for it. It is simply a 470 bullet in the 460 Wby. case. Cartridges of the world lists velocities as follows: 400 grain bullet- 3230, 500 grain bullet- 2980, 600 grain bullet- 2500. These velocities are not reality, and it is doubtful that they could safely be reached.
A much more sensible similar cartridge would be the 416 Rigby necked up to 475. I know of at least three versions of this. Velocities would be similar to what the 475 A&M would get while being in a much better cartridge without that stupid Weatherby belt.
There are a few places you can check it out. One is right here on this website on the reloading pages. Saeed built one up based on a Dakota action. The other is www.470mbogo.com.
If you want a big "stopper" in a bolt action, this may be the way to go.

There is one of those here in Utah on a Wby Mark V action. The barrel is about 24" so I doubt that extreme velocities can be reached with it.

A better cartridge is 416 rigby necked out to .475. You can simply rebarrel a cz550 in 416 rigby and use Norma brass. There is a fellow on this board with one that he calls the 470mbogo, so you would even have a source of reloading data.

It's kinda surprising that nobody commented on the "aggie" magnum so I will. Maybe Aggies are the only ones stupid enough to try to shoot something like the 475? BTW, anyone know what you call an Aggie when he graduates?
Gig 'em (no that's not the answer)

Rob 577,

We built one on the 416 Rigby case. We checked the case capacity of this one and a 416 Weatherby, and found them almost identical.

We could not get the velocities claimed for it. You can see our data on our Reloading Pages.

AC,

Originally being from Texas, I know the answer that you'd prefer, but I won't bother dignifying the question with a response. Instead I'll pose a more likely scenario for the new Aggie graduates:

What's the first question the new Aggie graduate is likely to ask---

"Would you like fries with that"?

Ohmygosh, I've stumbled upon the Aggie mutual admiration society. I should let my brother know about this, he's one of you too.

I still think of San Antonio as home, though I went to that school in Dallas. Most recently spent 2 years working in Austin before I transferred to Atlanta. And yes, I hope to move back some day.

Woolrich scrapped plans of putting a plant in College Station (home of Texas A&M) because there wasn't any virgin wool to be found.
