heres the deal i have a ruger stainless that i had rebarreled to a 458 and had a ruger rebored to a 416 taylor which i gave to my dad but he thinks its to big for idaho hunting so i got it back. anyway would a hogue stocks stand up to the recoil from these, if so would i need the pillar bedded one or the full lenght aluminum one, or if you anyone has any other options feel free i dont want to spend the price of another rifle on a stock.

I asked my gunsmith about the Hogue stocks for my big bore on the Ruger receiver. He said they will work fine. No special reinforcment or extra lugs needed. I plan on getting the one with the full bedding block, for extra strength.

I have a friend who has one of the standard Hogue stocks on his Ruger 458, and he has shot it a lot for years with no trouble. I think he told me that he just opened the barrel channel a little and dropped the barreled action in - nothing more.
