I do a fair dinkum Australian by simply pronouncing the Americanese long "A" sounds as long "I" sounds,
then the long "I" sounds of Americanese are pronounced as "oi" or "oy" sounds in Australian.

I am seriously wanting a 9.5-pound .408 Chey-Tac built on a CZ 550 Magnum, now, again ...
Been a'feared to do it until now.

In Australian you say it "Shoy-Tac."
Four-O-ITE Shoy-Tac.

Good die might. tu2

Shooting 600gr/2670fps from the Gibbs would be a dream to come true.

But not from a CZ action.

The 147fp./29fps. recoil from a 10 pound rifle is perfectly manageble.

All the actions designed for the Chey-Tac round are considerably beefier in every aspect than the CZ action is.

Why would you want or need to go to 2670 fps ?

And why 10 or 11 lb rifles ?

Original rifles were built balanced and a rough weight of 12 lbs or so.

1. To see what's on the other side. Now I know.

2. By mistake. Someday I'll add some weight.

505G

Using .460Wea. on everything for 32 years I never needed anything bigger.

However what I need and what I want is a totally different story.

I have my mine set on a .50BMG case based .620 and shooting 900gr. at 2500-2600fps. 20 pound rifle recoil 170fp/23fps. whereabouts.

The other day I was trying to locate some BMG brass and primers, but as usual I was unable to get neither.

So it looks like my plans may stall once again. This lack of components, barrels, suitable actions and so on it really starts to fuck me off to the point where I'll say 'That's it".

I like shooting and not constantly chasing some unobtainable components.

Yep sure did Rob. Was mostly double checking, as mentioned all the 460's, 585's and your 600's on CZ's settle the debate.

416tanzan the units for my comparison would be ftlbs/sqin, though not really important, just some armchair ballistics I indulge in.( I actually edited it out of that post but you must have been posting same time as me)
11lb gibbs at full power is not my cup of tea either. I am still fit and dumb enough I guess to lug guns closer to traditional weight or even a pound or two heavier. eg 13-14lbs for a fast 50cal will do.

RIP, not bad Wink Now in the US or talking to your soldiers in the middle east I had to introduce myself as "Korl" with the "or" sound. If I just said Karl with an Australian accent they unfailingly thought I was "Kyle". Piece that together

CrossL,
Good as Hillary, eh?

Karl,
You been coaching Hugh Jackman on his Americanese for the movies, eh?

I am so excited now, planning a .408 Chey-Tac walkabout rifle for varmints and such. Just gotta rebarrel that .505 Gibbs.
Will sign a waiver of liability for the gunsmith. tu2

For the test proof blue pill, forget about the Quick load software. It is shit anyway.

Just make sure that you fill 2 Chey-Tac cases full of a Bullseye and the heaviest bullet on top of it.

As long as it is CZ 550 action you will be even able to hold to the rifle while you pull the trigger.

If you find the recoil of the first shot too high, you may use a muzzle brake for the second round.

After that you will have to fire 2 more shots with a normal pressure load and your CZ 550 can be now rated as "Factory test proof certified".

Just make sure that all this is on a Youtube.

My full power 505 loads consist of a 600 gr Woodleigh PP bullet over 145 gr H-4831 SC, vel averages 2451 fps out of a 24" barrel.

Standard hunting loads run the same bullet at a more sedate and sane 2200 fps.

Jerry, that's all you'd need for anything, on this planet anyway :-)

You bet Biebs, I just ran the velocities to max to be sure the crossbolts and bedding were on the same page and working properly together.

Hmm, I don't know about 2200, a guy can get used to hunting at 2700-2800fps.

Back in the day, a 338WM could push a 250 NP at 2700fps fairly easily, and a 416Rigby does 350grain at 2800fps just as easily.
So when stepping up to the 50cals, it will be nice to know that there will be some non-cons/mono-metal at 350-450 grainers that start at 2600fps and go UP even for the lowly 500AccR. Eventually, such bullets should be available for the 505Gibbs and velocities ought to be like a 270Win, around 3000fps and higher. When talking 'maximum' like this thread, a 50 cal (or 49 1/2) can consider a one bullet, one planet, solution.

"A well-rounded hunting battery might include:
500 AccRel Nyati, 416 Rigby or 416 Ruger, 375Ruger or 338WM, 308 or 270, 243, 223" --

The lightest bullets for the .505 Gibbs that I can find is 485gr from Cutting Edge Bullets:

Not sure if there are any current bullets for the .505 Gibbs in the 350-450gr range.
