Recently took the plunge and need loading stuff. If anyone has an extra set of dies or bullets that he would like to sell please let me know. Best regards; Brett

Bret, I recently acquired a 470 NE and may have scrounged most of the "loose" stuff available. Dies and shell holder available from C&H in stock: Dies $138 Shell Holder $7 Web site: http://www.CH4D.Com I had to buy a die set. RCBS dies are special order expensive. I ended up with CH4D dies, but had to spin the sizer in a lathe to clean it up after first use ... I got junk in the poorly lubricated new die. I also had to remove flashing from the seating die where the seater plug counter bore had not been well cleaned out. Was not a big deal, and CH4D would have done it for me ... but I had the equipment to do it. They had 6 sets on the shelf two weeks ago Cases ... cheapest place ... is Bell Brass. $220/100 bulk Web Site: http://www.bellammo.com/ Have found a small number of X1 fired cases. I have told that supplier I'll take all he gets. Projectiles: These guys seem good! http://www.hawkbullets.com/maintest.htm I could find 500 grain Woodleighs in stock only at Huntington's. Others listed them, but they were not in stock. Cast projectiles at: http://WWW.CUSTOMCASTBULLETS.COM/ He sent samples. These are 540 FPPB. Are awefully long. Loaded to the normal crimp grove they are bumping into the rifling. One of the guys gave me some 500s made from a Ballisti-Cast mould. They seem to working well and are short enough. Good luck!

Mike, thanks for the information. Very helpful. Do the CH4D die work well in a RCBS press? Specifically will the cartridge fit without removing the die between cartridges? Brett

Brett, I had heard stories of needing a new press to load 470 NE ... but I've had my Rock Chucker for 35 years and wasn't going to go to an Ammomaster with trying it. Actually ... it does work if you: 1) orient the shell holder so that it is pointed to the left side (I'm right handed) 2) put the projectile into the slight bell of the cartridge mouth 3) Start the cartidge/projectile into the die mount with the base at a cant to the left 4) Slide the cartridge base into the shell holder. When sizing, you have to hook the case mouth around the decapping pin and then slide the cartridge case base into the shell holder. All of this sounds objectionable, but really isn't that bad. Have loaded 500 Woodleigh SPs, 500 Woodleigh solids, 400 gr Hawks, 500 gr cast, and 540 gr cast this way. Might not work for 600 gr projectiles. As exciting as a full load 500 gr Woodleigh is ... I can't imagine what one would need a 600 grain slug for! For these expensive large, thin walled cases I think lubing the inside of the case neck or the bullets or using motor mica on the bullets during seating is very wise. Hope this helps a little.
