Have any of you guys with Merkels changed your front sight?

I want to know if it is the same size and shape as a standard Recknagel / NECG sight like shown below?

Did your Merkel come checkered on top of sight blade or did you do it. Mine is smooth and I rather like the checkered top. Might also knock down some of the light reflection and give a more defined front sight. I didn't hink I would like the post/patridge front but after using it for a couple of years I think I prefer it.

Butchloc, I have thought of doing the same thing with the front sight on both my Merkel doubles. I'm 69 yrs old, and my eyes aren't what they used to be! I also would like to file the standing fixed rear 50 yd sight on my 470NE to a wide "V", and leave the flip up 100yd leaf as is. The rear sight on my 9.3X74R Merkel is a single fixed 100 yd sight, and I'd like to do the same thing to it, by ordering the SAFARI modle, two leaf sight, and filing them in the same way! I do like the NECG bead insert though! beer

mac37 - I did also take this a step further, I milled another piece into the bottom of the rear sight. The front sight is green and the rear orange. now all i have to do is to put green dot on top of the orange one. it's fast & visable

Yes, I recently changed mine from a post sight like your one to a RECKNAGEL 2.5MM SILVER BEAD mod; 11000-2560.
The total hight of this bead sight , from under side of dove tail to top of bead is 6mm.
Hope this helps.

Thanks. Did you just file off the excess length?
