I.Have a teddy Roosevelt 1895 model with all the engraving but I can't shoot it past 50 yards with those sites on it .I am even worse with peep sites so the TC encore in 405 is the only affordable option the Ruger #1 have gone out of site .I think the encore in the 405 Winchester would be awesome .I.also saw an article where a guy had a 405 Winchester but reloaded it with 416 bullets .The 416 Winchester would be nice
Better barrels and way more choice of bullets .If anyone has an extra barrel pm me I just got into the encore game .I.saw a contender barrel made into a 405 Winchester .I shoot 41 mag bullets out of 405 Winchester cases makes the 405 a blast to shoot kids love it me too ! I have never seen anyone write about a 405 encore on.here just wondered now I.gotta find a barrel bad stick a scope on it so I can shoot the heck out of it !

There is a good selection of .410” bullets. They shoot fine in .411” barrels. .411” bullets shoot fine in .410” barrels, as well, so no need to go the .416” route.

FISH!!

Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984:

"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."

dgr416,
An Aussie friend of mine has a scout scope on his Miroku made Winchester .405 WCF and he has take a lot of big game with it some here in Texas when I was along.
It shoots fine and with the scope we were able to shoot the exploding targets out to 100 yards with ease using Hornady 300 grain ammo.
PS - I have a Simson .405 double also and it is great. Note scope:

I know where a similar Simson .405 is for sale also if you are interested.

My 1895 .405 has a receiver mounted Redfield peep sight and seems to have good off-hand hunting accuracy .

PS I use .411 bullets except for the NF FPS which are .413. All these are accurate in all my .405 rifles. Cast bullets are .414.
Hornady .410 bullets are accurate AFTER the bore is fouled.

I.Wish I had also bought a regular grade 405 Winchester when I bought my Teddy Roosevelt one .I only
Paid $1000 for mine because some one took off the red barrel sticker on it .It was only $200 more than
The regular one at the time .The encore is the cheapest route for me to get a scoped 405 .That double rifle looks awesome. My eyes are not what they use to be .I just wAnt one to hog ,black bear and deer hunt with .I can shoot my Teddy Roosevelt model to 50 yards good but that's it with those sites.I.really like the 405 Winchester .If I found a regular grade 405 reasonable I would get one and scope it .I missed getting a cases double 405 on gb for $3600 it was awesome forgot the name of it .Hopefully.I.find and encore barrel .

dgr416,
Check Africa Hunting, double rifles, to see thread on .405 doubles. AZDAVE has a Simson Suhl for sale.

Also, here is one solution for scoping an 1895 .405:

Your TR 1895 .405 would be a show stopper dolled up like this. Plus, you could see to shoot it well.

I put one of these on my 1895 .405 repro.

https://www.buffaloarms.com/21...odel-95-86s-ptclongb

It's a period correct sight for the rifle and a copy of the original Lyman 21 sight.

Much better for my old eyes than the standard factory sights.

Yep peep sites are a no go for me .I.can use the three for glow sites out to 50
Yards .I have cadracks that are not bad enough to operate on yet but they really screw
Up my vision on iron sites .Peep site are totally fuzzy when I try to use then.If that mount uses the dovetail I could use it but my barrel I.think has engraving on it have to.look at it again .
It.would be nice to shoot out to 200 yards with my 405 winchester.I didn't see paying $800 at the time for a regular 1895 ,405 Winchester when I.Got the Teddy Roosevelt model for $200 more glad they took that stupid red sticker off that's how I.Got it .I want to try sizing some bullets also for this gun .The 350 grain mag tip Speer and the 410 grain Woodliegh would work awesome .I am going.to get an encore barrel too
If I.find one to have to shoot a ton so I don't wear out my 1895 405 .I will check.Out that scope mount looks very nice .I have wanted to shoot a huge black bear at my cabin with the 405 .He is about 700 pounds and 7 do it not your average black bear .A 673 pounder was shot near me last year .I.want to try making some brass from 30-40 krag brass too it's a little short but should be fine .I.Keep asking starline to make 405 Winchester brass I do not like the too think too soft hornady brass .I talked then into making 357 rem maximum ,444 marlin and 375 Winchester brass .Now we need some 405 Winchester brass from them so give them a call the more calls the quicker we get some good 405 Winchester brass!

A few years back I had Bullberry build me a 405 barrel for my Encore. It is scoped and shoots 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 in groups at 100 with factory Hornaday loads and around 1 in with handloaded Woodleigh and Hawk bullets.
