For those of you who have done sweat on barrel band front sights: Have you noticed any change in accuracy before vs. after? I know that buttoned barrels have a tendency to open slightly when doing muzzle brakes due to the latent stresses left in the barrel from the rifling process. I'm curious if any of you have noticed changes from before to after and if it was enough to be concerned about.

Thanks

Gabe

I think most people today either solder them on or glue them with AcraGlas. I haven't heard of a new sweat-on job in ages but then again, I'm not in the biggest gunsmithing loop by any means.

My .404 has a NECG banded front that is silver soldered on. The rifle groups under 1moa w/ several loads, but I didn't shoot it before the sights were installed.

Ditto my .404.....and this might be the biggest drawback to your question. No one shoots them before the sights are installed.

Personally I don't believe soldered on barrel bands and banded front sights hinder hunting accuracy at all. These things, of course, are not usually found on target rifles.

All my rifles are such...Never had a problem..I have had button rifled barrels with both barrel band front sight, swivel and muzzle brakes and never a problem...Problems exists when the person soldering does not know his business and get the barrel too hot and/or does not protect the inside of the barrel from slag....
